The Eye Care Unit (VE) belongs to the Business Area (VO) dermatology, reproductive medicine, and ophthalmology. The unit has approximately 250 employees at our facilities in Malmö and Lund. In addition, we also provide regional healthcare for Halland, Kronoberg, and Blekinge.

Our work is at the forefront of both basic and specialist training for doctors. We also conduct prominent research in close collaboration with Lund University. Eye Surgery Lund is the small workplace with great commitment. Here, 20 employees, including surgical nurses, nursing assistants, and surgical planners, work in a close-knit team where the patient is always the focus. Our operations are at the forefront of development work, which is not only important for our patients but also to ensure a stimulating work environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a unit manager, you have overall management responsibility for operations, personnel, work environment, and finances. You are tasked with leading the daily work, and an important part of this is being present for the staff. Furthermore, you promote good interdisciplinary collaboration.

-I have worked in eye surgery since January 2016, and what has kept me here is the variety and community. Ophthalmology is a fantastic specialty where we meet patients of all ages and work with both planned procedures and acute traumas, under both local and general anesthesia. What I appreciate most is my engaged and positive colleagues and the great collaboration where everyone helps each other. It is a workplace with strong cohesion, great responsibility, and high competence. After 48 years in healthcare, I am now retiring and can warmly recommend the organization to my successor, says Birgit, who is the unit manager for eye surgery in Lund.

We work forward-looking, and together with your managerial colleagues, you participate in and develop the strategic work in our management group. This group is responsible for leading personnel work that uplifts each individual. We work for a competent and wonderful work environment that promotes nursing work infused with quality and safety for our patients. Sustainable planning, competence supply, and responsibility distribution are our common focus. You are expected in your role to be well-informed and take great responsibility for driving both your own unit and the shared operations forward. The area manager will be your supervisor.

In combination with the administrative work as a unit manager, you have the opportunity to work clinically with us, which gives you valuable proximity to the operations and patients. Your clinical work will initially be limited but will gradually increase as you become more established in the organization. This helps you develop in your role as a unit manager and become a secure point in the operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

We primarily seek someone who is a trained surgical nurse or someone with another relevant education in healthcare with the authority to work within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish corresponding to at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s level scale are required. It is highly meritorious if you have previous leadership and/or managerial experience, as well as broad experience in healthcare. We also view relevant education in leadership positively, as you will lead the nursing work in the unit.

As a person, you are secure in your professional role and driven to lead and develop people. You work easily both independently and in a group with your colleagues. Your communicative ability and interest in people make it easy for you to create good relationships and collaboration both within and outside the unit.

Your leadership is characterized by an inspiring approach. You understand the value of acknowledging employees' efforts and development, and you have the ability to uplift others, create good energy, and lead by example in your daily work. At the same time, you are goal- and result-oriented with a focus on driving the operations forward. As a manager, you are attentive and understanding. You communicate clearly and can set boundaries for both yourself and the workgroup.
