PhD Candidate in Industrial Economics

Description

The Faculty of Health, Nature and Engineering Sciences announces a position within the doctoral education leading to a PhD in Industrial Economics at the Department of Engineering and Physics.

The cement industry currently accounts for approximately 4% of Sweden's carbon dioxide emissions and is actively working towards climate-neutral cement production. Their solutions aim to reduce the carbon footprint, one concept being carbon capture and storage (CCS). CCS refers to capturing carbon dioxide and then transporting it to final storage beneath the earth's surface. This concept creates several challenges related to logistics, which means that the logistics of carbon dioxide and its connection to the cement supply chains play a crucial role in the implementation of CCS.

As part of a research project concerning the role of logistics in the cement industry's CCS, we are seeking a PhD candidate motivated to develop their research within our group. The research is planned to be conducted within supply chains and logistics with a focus on the climate transition of energy-intensive manufacturing. Specific direction and focus area for the doctoral work will be defined in detail in consultation between the doctoral candidate and the supervisory team. The candidate will be responsible for creating and disseminating new knowledge through empirically driven research within supply chain management. Potential research questions may revolve around the role of logistics in the climate transition and its interplay with production aspects, as well as resilience within these supply chains.

Responsibilities

As a PhD candidate, you will primarily focus on your own doctoral education. The doctoral education, which consists of 240 higher education credits (hp) for a PhD and 120 hp for a licentiate degree, is an opportunity for paid studies combined with work and a chance to start an academic career. As a PhD candidate, you will work independently and be prepared to contribute in various ways to the subject's and department's work and development.

Eligibility and Admission

To be admitted to the doctoral education, you must meet both general and specific eligibility requirements (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 § 35).

General eligibility is granted to those who have obtained a degree at an advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 hp, of which at least 60 hp at an advanced level, or who have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 7 § 39).

Specific eligibility for admission to the doctoral education in industrial economics is granted to those who have obtained a Master of Science degree, Master's, or Magister in industrial economics, or in related fields such as mechanical engineering (specifically focused on industrial production) or computer science (specifically focused on industrial IT), provided that the studies and thesis work have a relevant focus for the planned dissertation work. The degree must include a relevant independent thesis of at least 15 hp at an advanced level for doctoral studies. Those who do not meet the specific eligibility requirement but have otherwise acquired equivalent relevant knowledge in the research area may become eligible after special assessment.
