Embedded Systems Developer at FOI
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.
Do you want to help strengthen Sweden's total defense at a dynamic workplace with innovative colleagues and at the forefront of technology? The Electronic Warfare Department at FOI in Linköping is in a very expansive phase, and we are now looking for a creative embedded systems developer who wants to contribute to Sweden's security!
About the Position
With us, solutions are required that not only use the latest technology but also the technology of the future. Our research contributes to the development of future defense systems. Your contribution will primarily be in VHDL and C running on modern FPGA and ARM chips, focusing on implementing experimental algorithms and analysis functions in our experimental and demonstrator systems.
Tasks may include:
- Providing expert support within projects based on your specialist knowledge
- Proposing implementation solutions in embedded systems
- Proposing new system solutions for challenging implementations of algorithms/functions and participating in their realization
- Reviewing/writing reports for clients
- Participating in national and international collaborations; travel may occur
Since our unit has a wide range of technologies, there are great opportunities for varied tasks. This may involve working both theoretically, with models and simulations, and practically with testing real systems. Our projects are relatively small in terms of personnel, which means your contribution will be part of a whole where you also have a great opportunity to influence project outcomes and deepen your expertise in your specialist area. Since we test systems in a realistic environment with field measurements, it is advantageous if you also appreciate staying outside the office and lab environment.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Electronic Countermeasures unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare Department. We develop and research new systems in the radio area for protection against unmanned systems and radio-controlled threats, as well as developing jamming and protection technologies for positioning, navigation, timing (PNT), and GNSS. We develop the entire chain from algorithms to prototypes, which are often tested in real environments together with our clients. We are a workplace with a strong sense of community where you, who are curious about new technology and have good collaboration skills, will thrive. We work closely with the Armed Forces (FM) and the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) but also have good contacts with the academic world, international collaborations, the development industry, and other authorities such as MSB.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A Master's degree in engineering with a focus on programming for embedded systems or equivalent
- Good knowledge of VHDL
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
Meritorious
It is meritorious but not necessary to have one or more of the following experiences and competencies:
- Xilinx tools/chips
- Programming languages C/C++/Python
- Linux
- GNU Radio/Soapy
- Matlab
- Control engineering
- Signal processing
- AI
- UAV control/programming
- Radio communication
