Law Student Wanted for Summer Job at DO
DO works for a society free from discrimination and for those who have been subjected to discrimination to receive redress. DO is now seeking law students who wish to contribute to this important work during the summer.
The Legal Unit
The main task of the Legal Unit is to supervise compliance with the Discrimination Act. The supervisory work is primarily carried out by investigating reports of discrimination.
DO also has the right to act as a party on behalf of individuals who have been subjected to discrimination. DO's mandate also includes representing individuals who have been disadvantaged in violation of, among other things, the Parental Leave Act.
DO is a growing authority and is expected to expand further in the coming years as a result of Sweden's implementation of the EU directive on pay transparency. The staff of the Legal Unit will play an active role in this work, including supervising compliance with regulations by Swedish employers.
The Legal Unit currently consists of about 50 employees divided into five sections. Each legal section has a section manager, a unit assistant, preparatory investigators, investigators, and litigators. The sections are not specialized but work across all relevant areas of society and regarding all grounds of discrimination.
Your Tasks
You will assist in the ongoing work of the Legal Unit, and the work is largely event-driven based on the needs that arise within the unit. The summer intern's work mainly involves performing tasks of a legal and administrative nature that are usually carried out by preparatory investigators and unit assistants.
Your work will include preparing reports of discrimination, which involves reading through and summarizing reports, conducting a discrimination law analysis of the content, and suggesting whether DO should initiate supervision based on the authority's guidelines. The work also includes preparing supervision cases in the initial phase, including investigating which actor is the correct supervision object and asking relevant questions to the supervision object. The work also involves contact with individuals who reach out to the authority through phone calls and written inquiries. The work also includes confidentiality assessments and legal investigations. Additionally, there are ongoing tasks of a more administrative nature, such as registering documents, communicating documents, and dispatching decisions.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
- is studying in the law program and has passed at least up to the fifth semester when the position is to be filled. You should not have completed your education before the summer.
- has good grades from completed parts of the law education.
- has very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- has excellent computer skills and very good knowledge of the Office suite.
You should also have the ability to:
- quickly understand routines and tasks.
- work efficiently with accuracy.
- be service-oriented, flexible, and unpretentious.
- act with good judgment and a positive attitude.
- collaborate and build good relationships.
Meritorious
- experience of administrative work.
- experience working in a government agency.
- knowledge and interest in discrimination law and human rights.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal abilities.
The position is a fixed-term employment for the period of June 15 to August 7, 2026 (eight weeks).
