Beach Lifeguards Wanted for Malmö City Beaches

Job Responsibilities

For the summer season of 2026, we are looking for beach lifeguards for Malmö City's beaches Scaniabadet and Kalkbrottsjön. Placement will be according to a rolling schedule, with work at Kalkbrottsjön occurring approximately every third week.

The work operates daily regardless of weather with beach hosts and lifeguards throughout the season, as well as with reinforcement during the school summer vacation. In the role of a lifeguard, you will have an important mission where you can make a difference for the residents of Malmö, while also having the opportunity to develop and grow in your professional role.

As a lifeguard, your focus will primarily be on safety and surveillance. You should be attentive to your surroundings and assist those in distress within the swimming area, as well as, if necessary, perform first aid and life-saving measures while waiting for emergency services. You should be able to move quickly with equipment, which places high demands on basic physical fitness.

To be eligible for employment, you must complete a swimming and diving test (regardless of prior knowledge) during the first or second week of March 2026 and be available for 40 hours of training during one week in early June (Monday to Friday). An introductory meeting will take place in early May.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has completed or is currently pursuing a high school education. To be considered for the position, you need to be able to swim at least 1000 meters, dive 3.5 meters underwater, and tow a dummy in the water. Good knowledge of the Swedish language and basic knowledge of English are also requirements for the position. If you also have knowledge of additional languages, we consider that an advantage. It is also beneficial if you have work experience from a similar job and if you have training in first aid, CPR, or if you have training as an SLS pool lifeguard or SLS beach lifeguard.

In the role of a lifeguard with us, you will become part of a community, so it is important that you are a person who enjoys working with people and shows interest and understanding for others. You have no problem building good relationships with both colleagues and citizens. As a lifeguard, it is important to be attentive and take responsibility, so it is a given for you to follow rules and routines, as well as to handle ethical dilemmas in accordance with Malmö City's values.

Malmö City assesses that the work as a lifeguard is not suitable for anyone under 18 years old, referring to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations regarding work for minors. Therefore, you must be at least 18 years old to be considered for the position.
