Workplace Description
The Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö (IKVM) is now announcing a PhD position and employment as a doctoral student within the surgical research group.
The research group consists of both clinical and preclinical researchers. Clinical, epidemiological, and laboratory-based research is conducted by senior researchers, post-docs, and doctoral students. The research is carried out in close collaboration with healthcare within Region Skåne and is conducted both in the university's facilities and within SUS Malmö.

Medical Science with a focus on Surgery
Project Description
The project investigates how thyroid metabolism may affect survival after breast cancer. Serum samples and tumor material are analyzed in various ways. These data are then examined in relation to survival after diagnosis. Great emphasis is placed on the design of the studies and statistical analysis.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The main tasks for a doctoral student are to engage in their doctoral education, and therefore you will be both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University.
The tasks as a doctoral student include acquiring necessary knowledge through a number of mandatory courses. This is complemented by necessary elective courses. The main task is to conduct research together with supervisors, that is, to formulate research questions, design studies, collect data, analyze, and summarize in writing.
Qualifications
Basic eligibility for doctoral education is for those who have:
- completed a degree at the advanced level
- completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level or in some other way acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
The requirements for specific eligibility are met by those who have:
- at least 60 higher education credits in the field of medical science
- applicants must have knowledge equivalent to at least 3 years of upper secondary education in English
Specific requirements for employment are:
- Knowledge of, and skills in, microscopy and assessment of histological preparations
- Competence in conducting and interpreting basic statistical tests and also analyzing survival using multivariable methods
- Very good knowledge of Swedish, which is necessary to read clinical notes and communicate with healthcare personnel and registrars
Meritorious for the position are:
- Good knowledge of medical science to interpret and summarize information from patient records
- Experience in summarizing scientific findings in a scientific report
Great importance will be placed on how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to have the ability needed to complete the doctoral education.

About the Employment
The employment is a fixed-term position for a total of four years, 100% with a start date of 2026-02-01 or by agreement. The main rule is that employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, and you are therefore expected to perform your work on-site in Malmö.
Regulations regarding employment as a doctoral student are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.
