Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure working environment in healthcare? Do you have experience in occupational health work, teaching, or measurement techniques within occupational hygiene or a similar field? The Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine (CAMM) is now seeking an engaged occupational hygienist for the task of training testers, providing advice on respirators, and conducting fit tests using advanced particle measurement methods.
Description
The Swedish Work Environment Authority has clarified regulations regarding measures to reduce the risk of airborne infections in the workplace starting in 2025. Employers must ensure that respirators are individually fitted and seal tightly during use.
CAMM has been tasked with coordinating the work of Region Stockholm regarding fit testing and training. A central part of the assignment is to build a sustainable structure where fit tests can be conducted locally, with support and quality assurance from CAMM's occupational hygienists.
Job Description
As an occupational hygienist within the project, you will be responsible for:
- Training and certifying local test leaders in respirator fit testing
- Providing advice and expert support to healthcare operations regarding the selection and correct use of respirators. Participating in risk assessments related to airborne infections and exposure
- Conducting fit tests (fit testing) using quantitative particle measurement methods (PortaCount or equivalent)
- Contributing to method development, quality assurance, and evaluation of the testing operations
- Collaborating with project leaders, infection control, infection clinics, and Central HR
You will work closely with experienced occupational hygienists and infection control experts and contribute to building a long-term competence structure within the region.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A degree in a relevant field, such as occupational hygiene, occupational health, chemistry, biology, or engineering
- Experience in occupational health work, risk assessments, or similar activities
- Good pedagogical skills and an interest in teaching and mentoring
- The ability to work independently, structured, and solution-oriented
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- An interest in and preferably experience with technical measuring equipment
Meritorious:
- Experience as an occupational hygienist or occupational health engineer
- Knowledge of respirators and fit testing
- Experience with measurements using particle counters or other quantitative exposure measurements
- Experience in training activities within occupational health or healthcare
- A driver's license (meritorious, as some equipment is transported to operations)
Personal Attributes
You are meticulous, pedagogical, and have strong analytical skills. You thrive in the role of advisor and educator and find it easy to build trust in meetings with various professionals. You have an interest in both technology and people and are driven by the desire to contribute to improved working conditions and safety in healthcare.
The Practicalities
Employment type: General fixed-term employment full-time, alternatively a training position for one year, with the possibility of extension. Start date: As soon as possible or by agreement.
