Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is one of the largest centers for ecological research in the Nordic region, offering a dynamic and excellent research environment with modern infrastructure. The Department of Ecology has approximately 150 employees, with around 40 working at the Grimsö Research Station in Bergslagen. The other part of the staff is co-located with the Department of Plant Production Ecology within SLU's Ecological Center in Uppsala.

Subject Description
The subject of the position is wildlife ecology with a focus on management in Nordic forest ecosystems. The subject encompasses the ecology of wildlife populations and their interactions with humans, landscapes, and climate.
Responsibilities
The holder will be responsible for the development of research within the subject of wildlife ecology in collaboration with other researchers at the faculty and university. The holder will also contribute to the pedagogical development within the subject. This means that the holder should within the subject of the position:
- act in accordance with SLU's vision, goals, and values
- contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty, and SLU
- develop and lead an internationally successful environment for research
- work with research based on theoretical and empirical studies, and be able to achieve practical applications within wildlife management
- publish scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals
- seek external research funding at national and international levels
- supervise doctoral students and be a mentor for postdoctoral researchers
- develop, lead, and participate in teaching at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels
- collaborate with researchers within the department, faculty, and other parts of SLU, as well as nationally and internationally
- engage and further develop networks with the surrounding community regionally, nationally, and internationally
- communicate research results
- perform administrative tasks within the department, faculty, and university, including responsibility for budget and personnel
The department has a bilingual working environment. The professor will be able to perform most of their tasks in English. As an authority, the university has Swedish as its main language according to the requirements of the Language Act. At SLU, non-Swedish speaking staff are expected to acquire such knowledge of Swedish within four years from their employment that they can access information in Swedish. The department will support the holder in achieving this.
Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence. Equal care should be given to the assessment of pedagogical competence as to the assessment of scientific competence.
The applicant must:
- have a doctoral degree in a relevant subject for the position
- be scientifically competent in the subject of the position
- be pedagogically competent
- have demonstrated leadership ability
- have good knowledge of English
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria for employment shall primarily be the degree of such competence that is a requirement for eligibility for the position.
In assessing scientific competence, the following will be considered:
- completed research efforts and ongoing research in the subject
- future visions for research in the subject
- ability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding research in the subject
- ability to obtain external research funding in competition
- ability to supervise and examine doctoral students and be a mentor for postdoctoral researchers
In assessing pedagogical competence, the following will be considered:
- plan, implement, and evaluate one's own teaching at all levels
- supervise and examine students at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels
- communicate and implement their pedagogical vision
- integrate current research and scientific approaches into pedagogical work
Furthermore, experience in:
- ability to develop and lead activities and staff within academia
- leadership vision
- collaboration ability
- ability to collaborate with external stakeholders and the surrounding community
- ability to communicate research results and development work

Location:
The position is located in Uppsala. The appointment includes actively developing and leading an existing research group at the Grimsö Research Station, which involves regular presence at the station, approximately 2.5 hours travel from Uppsala.
