Improved Diagnosis and Monitoring of Insulin Dysregulation - Horse-Specific Analytical Methods for Insulin and C-Peptide

Content Description:

We are seeking an engaged and motivated doctoral student who wants to work within our new project “Improved Diagnosis and Monitoring of Insulin Dysregulation - Horse-Specific Analytical Methods for Insulin and C-Peptide”, which is partially funded by the Foundation for Equine Research. The project involves developing and evaluating new analytical methods for diagnosing and monitoring equine metabolic syndrome and dyslipidemia. The project is conducted at Clinical Chemistry, Department of Clinical Sciences, SLU, Uppsala, in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Ås, Norway, and the companies NABAS, Ås Norway, and Capitainer, Solna, Sweden. The position involves conducting doctoral education and, under supervision, collecting data through sampling horses, performing method validations, as well as analyzing, processing, and presenting results within the project.

Qualifications:

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must have a veterinary degree and Swedish veterinary license
  • have a B driver's license
  • be able to express themselves well both orally and in writing in Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria:

The assessment will consider:

  • motivation and interest in the research project and personal development within the subject
  • the individual's ability to drive and complete the project
  • collaboration skills and ability to work both independently and in a group
  • experience of previous clinical work with horses
  • experience of laboratory work within veterinary clinical chemistry
  • experience of teaching at the university level

The position will be offered to the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best conditions to perform the tasks. Therefore, considerable weight will be placed on personal qualities.

To be eligible for doctoral education, a degree at the advanced level or at least four years of full-time studies, of which at least one year at the advanced level, is required.
