The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) operates in an interprofessional team that works closely with patients and is constantly active in monitoring and treating the patient's physiological processes. The unit provides care in all phases of intensive care, including preventive, acute, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care. The ICU is staffed with the same number of individuals and competencies around the patient regardless of the time of day, all year round, which places high demands on consistent staffing with high competence to deliver good and equitable intensive care. The specialist nurse in intensive care has the competence to care for and treat patients with failure in one or more organ systems from a person-centered perspective.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a specialist nurse in intensive care at an advanced level, you will deepen your skills in intensive care and contribute to the development of nursing while managing all care situations that may arise. You will serve as a role model regarding professional conduct and interaction for everyone.

As an advanced specialist nurse in intensive care, you will further develop your competence by working person-centered, with well-founded experiential and evidence-based knowledge, independently and in consultation with the patient, relatives, and the care team. You will have a leading and driving role in the team and work on assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and analyzing the care of all intensive care patients, regardless of the timing in the care process, while independently managing complex care situations.

In addition to performing standard clinical tasks, you will be responsible for: Acute external assignments. This means you will carry out acute external assignments outside the department, such as trauma alarms, Mobile Intensive Care Teams, or alarm activities relevant to the unit.

In acute external assignments, you will work in a cross-professional team where you have nursing responsibility for the assessment and management of critically ill patients. You will have the readiness to act independently and manage complex care situations even outside the intensive care unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

We welcome you who are a licensed nurse with authorization to practice within Swedish healthcare and have a specialist education in intensive care. You have a specialist nursing degree, a master's degree, or equivalent formal education in acute external assignments. Proficiency in the Swedish language at least at level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale is a requirement. Furthermore, you have clinical experience in the specialty. You have met the competence requirements for the specialist phase in the competence and service model at ICU, Sus.

It is advantageous if you have experience working as a specialist nurse in intensive care at the specialist phase in another intensive care unit, but the knowledge will be validated against the competence requirements for the advanced phase within Intensive and Perioperative Care (IPV) Lund. It is also advantageous if you have completed courses or further training at an advanced level that is relevant to the specialty and assignment. If you have previously presented or applied acquired knowledge from training/conferences/congresses aimed at developing nursing in the department, we see this as beneficial. Additionally, it is advantageous if you have previously worked with acute external assignments.
