The Adult Psychiatry Area (VO) in Helsingborg has inpatient and outpatient care in Ängelholm, Helsingborg, and Landskrona. We provide specialist psychiatric care and treatment for patients with severe mental health issues. Our catchment area consists of the ten municipalities in northwestern Skåne, with whom we have a good collaboration through cooperation meetings and care planning.

Ward 56 is a general psychiatric emergency care ward for inpatient care and an educational ward aimed at patients over 18 years old. With us, patients with conditions and illnesses from the entire psychiatric diagnostic spectrum are treated, with a special assignment for specialized eating disorder care. The team working in the ward consists of a wonderful group of doctors, medical secretaries, social workers, nurses, and caregivers, as well as a unit manager.

Region Skåne is transitioning to the title of nursing assistant and will gradually phase out the title of caregiver across all our psychiatric services. This process started on November 1, 2023. The change in title will not alter the need for specialist competence in psychiatry. Specialist competence remains very important and will continue to be developed. Within the administration, work has begun to review what is needed for ongoing skills development, increased professional knowledge, and development opportunities related to patient work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are now looking for a caregiver/nursing assistant for our ward!

You will perform common caregiver tasks in a psychiatric inpatient ward. Your duties also include participating in the various routines related to care. Additionally, the tasks consist of both basic care and practical interventions and emergency situations in the ward, documentation, and supervision of students. You will have conversations, support patients in their daily lives, and handle various situations that may arise. Ethics and the equal value of all people are important cornerstones in your work, and you will work for high patient safety through collaboration with colleagues and patients. We work in two care teams as well as in an eating disorder team. Within the care team/team, care is planned together around the patients, and their care is the focus of all work.

To provide the best possible care and conduct good work, we continuously offer our staff the necessary skills development. All staff are also offered training in TERMA (therapeutic meeting with aggression), SpiSS (suicide prevention), and CPR, among others.

The working hours are scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is a trained nursing assistant or specialist nursing assistant in psychiatry. This means you have a recognized upper secondary care and nursing education (2500 points), a recognized care and nursing education via adult education (minimum 1350 points), or another equivalent nursing assistant education. In addition to education, we would like you to have experience working as a caregiver and/or nursing assistant. It is also advantageous if you have experience working in psychiatry or with patients with mental health issues. Since the work largely involves communication and documentation, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written. It is seen as an advantage if you have good computer skills and basic knowledge of our journal system Melior.

You have a genuine interest in psychiatric care and always put the patient first. We believe that you as a person are secure and stable; it is important that you can remain calm and have a low-arousal approach in stressful situations. With a high sense of service and responsibility, along with good collaboration skills, you humbly meet the situation that the patient and their relatives are facing. You enjoy supervising students and feel comfortable in that role. You have good prioritization skills and also contribute to a good work environment. We are keen to find the right person and therefore place great emphasis on personal suitability.

As of July 1, 2023, the title of nursing assistant became a protected professional title. This means you will need a certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare to use the title nursing assistant within care and nursing. If you currently have a permanent position as a nursing assistant and are offered a new position, you can retain your title as a nursing assistant until June 30, 2033. At any interview/employment, you will need to present proof of the protected professional title from the National Board of Health and Welfare or a certificate that you were permanently employed on July 1, 2023. If you do not currently have a professional certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare or are covered by the transitional provisions, this means that the title in your employment contract will be care assistant and not nursing assistant.
