Neuroscience Department

We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. In addition to our role as a regional hospital, we provide highly specialized care to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero of life. We believe that honesty lasts the longest, and it is no secret that we need to grow. As a colleague, you will experience much. Tough challenges but also fantastic events, strong community, and support from colleagues and fellow humans. Our Operations

The healthcare provided in the neuroscience department 85D is largely regional care with planned admissions. The department also conducts emergency care for the county's and region's residents. Here, adult patients with diseases and injuries to the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems are investigated and treated. Common disease groups that we investigate and treat include Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), epilepsy, normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), dystonia, essential tremor, myasthenia gravis, motor neuron diseases (MND) where amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common. We also meet patients who have acutely fallen ill with inflammatory, autoimmune, or infectious conditions with neurological symptoms such as encephalitis, meningitis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. The department also has some neurosurgical patients who are cared for pre- and postoperatively in connection with the operation of VP shunts, baclofen pumps, and DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation).

The department has a wide variety of investigations, follow-ups, treatments, and pre- and postoperative care, making the work varied, enjoyable, and very competency-enhancing. The symptoms of neurological diseases are many and varied, which means that no day is the same. The reasons behind certain neurological diseases remain unclear, but new research in neurology is constantly emerging, which means that care is developed and updated. Join us in the development!

"The best part of my job as a nurse is that every day I get the chance to develop and learn something new, both as a person and in my profession as a nurse. It is also very enjoyable that my tasks are so broad, ranging from medical technology to documentation and improvement work. Then there are my colleagues; I wouldn't manage a day without them" – Mikaela, nurse at 85D

Your Mission

We are now looking for someone interested in a night position with us in the neuroscience department 85D. As a nurse with us, you will be part of a wonderful and supportive team. You will work with patients who are hospitalized for neurological diseases, both in acute phases and planned care occasions. Nurses in neurology play an important role in the highly specialized care around the patients. In the department, we have two teams, and you will be responsible for one of the teams during the night along with 1–2 nursing assistants. We have the same staffing of nurses around the clock.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. Previous experience as a nurse is an advantage, but even if you are newly graduated, you are warmly welcome to apply.

Your Competence

You are attentive and have an easy time communicating with colleagues, patients, and relatives. You are a person who is observant, stress-resistant, and has a positive attitude. You can work independently and in a team and have an interest in developing our operations where the patient is always in focus. You have the ability to prioritize and reprioritize your tasks as needed.

We Offer

We offer you a permanent position. Night shifts and weekend work. Start date will be agreed upon. Introduction will be planned according to your needs and previous experience.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be able to participate in the professional introduction "clinical development year" as part of your introduction. This provides in-depth knowledge and conditions for a good start in your new professional role as a nurse. The training constitutes 20% of your working time in the first year with maintained salary.

Within the operational area, we want to invest in the competence development of our employees and therefore hold a basic course in neurology for six full days each semester. All staff in the department are offered to take the course after you have worked for about 1 year. The department actively works with competence development, including weekly lectures for all employees. We also actively work to create a good and healthy work environment for everyone.
