About Amerikanska Gymnasiet, Gothenburg

Located in Lindholmen, next to Karlatornet, our newly built school where we moved in autumn 2024. The school has about 520 students studying Natural Science, Technology, Economics, or Social Science programs. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English by a competent and driven team of teachers. There is a strong sense of community within the staff group.

About the Position

We are looking for a special education teacher with a workload of 80%. Full-time opportunities may be available depending on qualifications. The position could, for example, be combined with teaching.

As a special education teacher, you work as part of the school's student welfare team and play a crucial role in promoting and preventing issues. You also work operationally to support teachers in the learning environment, where, for example, lesson observations are an important daily task. You ensure that students receive the right support and that teachers have the necessary knowledge to make the teaching accessible to all students.

You also work closely with the school management and act as an extended arm to ensure that teachers and students have the right conditions to succeed. Together with the school management, you are responsible for planning and driving support work at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and parents, you support in adapting studies for students. You establish action plans and conduct investigations, such as educational assessments, when needed. You also support principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school's development work.You will support students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good understanding of compensatory aids and competence in digital teaching tools.

The position is a permanent employment at 80%, with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date by agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for a qualified special education teacher, preferably with a teaching license. Previous experience in the field is a requirement. It is also advantageous if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in establishing action plans and conducting educational assessments, as well as good knowledge and experience of working with students with reading and writing difficulties. You also have knowledge and experience of working with language development approaches. You have a professional approach in dealing with students, colleagues, and parents and a good understanding of people's different conditions. You are easy to collaborate with and build good working relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive attitude.

You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. You have the ability to use a wide range of digital teaching materials and have a solid digital competence.
