Leading Responsibility in Laboratory Virus and Vaccine Surveillance

Do you want to take a leading role in laboratory virus and vaccine surveillance? We are looking for an engaged specialist who wants to contribute to diagnostics and operational development within national microbial surveillance. Join our team and represent the authority in important international contexts!

What will you work on?

You will be medically responsible for laboratory virus and vaccine surveillance and support the diagnostics and operational development carried out in the unit. The unit and the authority conduct extensive work on national microbial surveillance.

In your role, you will be part of an emergency line for clinical microbiology, with duty approximately every fourth week. Your tasks also include representing the authority in various national and international contexts, such as reference groups and other forms of collaboration, for example within ECDC and WHO.

In addition to these tasks, other duties for investigators at the authority may also occur.

Who are we looking for?

Requirements for the position:

  • Licensed physician with specialist training in clinical microbiology or infectious medicine.
  • At least six years of work experience and a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Documented interest in virology.

  • Previous work in accredited laboratory operations.
  • Experience in method development and validation of methods.

Significant emphasis is placed on:

  • Experience working in a government agency.
  • Leadership experience.

Emphasis is placed on:

  • Competence in the use of statistical programs.
  • Familiarity with handling databases.

What does the unit do?

The unit for laboratory virus and vaccine surveillance is a national WHO laboratory for influenza, polio, measles, and rubella. We are also responsible for national microbial surveillance of vaccine-related pathogens, such as influenza, polio, measles, and whooping cough. We regularly conduct immunity surveys for diseases included in the childhood vaccination program.

About the Employment

You will be employed as an investigator based at our office in Solna. The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is as soon as possible by agreement.

As an employee of the Public Health Agency, you may be placed in a war position. Certain positions are classified where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security screening will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

At the authority, there may be an opportunity to enter into an agreement for remote work up to 40 percent of your working time.
