Analyst for Defense Analysis
FOI, the Total Defense Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, and our mission is to conduct research, method and technology development, and investigations to support total defense, disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. Our activities are conducted on behalf of primarily the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1400 employees, of whom more than 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.

About the Position
As an analyst in Defense Analysis, you will work with various issues to develop decision-making and knowledge support that can contribute to increased quality and capability within total defense. In future studies, we focus on analyzing future technologies, their military applications, and security policy implications. The area is growing and developing, which means that the development of methods within future studies is also part of the job responsibilities.
The work is carried out both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and clients. Tasks may have both long-term focus and require the ability to deliver quick conclusions.
About the Unit
Together, our employees in Defense Analysis form a unique analytical organization with a wide range of experiences and academic disciplines. The department is characterized by our ability to combine analysis and research to interdisciplinary identify, describe, and solve complex problems. Many of our analysts work integrated with our clients to directly support various investigation and planning efforts. Our main clients are the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, and MSB. We contribute to better mutual understanding between the actors of total defense and to strengthening society's ability to meet future challenges. You will be part of the Strategy and Policy unit, which belongs to the Defense Analysis department.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
- Academic education at the master's level in natural sciences or social sciences, or are a civil engineer.
- At least 3 years of experience in analytical work, research, or investigations relevant to our operations.
- Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative analytical methods.
- Experience leading workshops and seminars.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
To thrive in the role, you collaborate well with both colleagues and clients and other stakeholders. You are creative, innovative, and have excellent problem-solving analytical skills that enable you to handle and analyze complex problems. You also need to be able to work independently and have good pedagogical insight, adapting the way you convey messages to the audience. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

The position is a permanent employment that may start with a six-month probationary period.
