Unit for International Law, Human Rights and Treaty Law, Ministry for Foreign Affairs
For those with knowledge and experience in international law issues, an exciting job awaits with a focus on international cooperation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' unit for international law, human rights and treaty law (UD-FMR).
Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow
UD-FMR, with around 30 employees, consists of three groups: one for international law, one for human rights, and one that handles processes before the European Court of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Committees. The unit also includes the ambassador for human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, as well as the Ministry's legal advisor on international law.
The International Law Group works with international law in foreign policy, is responsible for international legal processes in the EU, UN, and other multilateral forums, and provides legal advice within the Ministry and the Government Offices. The group is responsible for issues related to general international law, treaty law, the borders of the state, international humanitarian law, immunity and privileges, maritime law, international criminal law, and the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and other international tribunals and courts. The group is also responsible for the international legal aspects of crisis management and disarmament issues, as well as the international law concerning polar regions and outer space.
Job Responsibilities
As a case officer in the International Law Group, you will handle issues related to, among other things, general international law, treaty law, international humanitarian law, immunity and privilege issues, crisis management, and maritime law. The content of the position and the distribution of tasks within the group will be determined based on the background of the successful candidate and the needs of the operation and may change in the future. The position includes the usual case officer responsibilities for preparing materials for the political leadership. The work requires close contacts within the Ministry and the Government Offices, with foreign missions, and other authorities. Business trips may occur, as well as some administration.
