Teaching Assistant Needed for Björnåkers Area

We are now looking for an engaged teaching assistant for a longer temporary position, primarily based at Björnåkersskolan F-3 and the after-school program. If necessary, the position may also involve work at other schools in the area, such as Bygdsiljum, Skråmträsk, and Bodbysund's after-school program. Approximately 450 students are enrolled in the area, and about 65 staff members work here.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a teaching assistant, you will guide and support students with various needs to help them achieve educational goals. This includes clarifying the teacher's instructions and assisting students in organizing their schoolwork. The role is complementary to the teacher and involves close collaboration, which may include simple corrections and documentation of results. You will also be responsible for preparing classrooms, setting up and clearing away teaching materials, and ensuring that tools and assistive technology are available and functioning.

The work also involves proactively ensuring a safe and secure environment where students can develop and learn. You will closely collaborate with guardians, school staff, and other important contacts.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a teaching assistant with a high school vocational education in relevant pedagogical training, as well as preferably experience in pedagogical work with children and youth. You should have the ability to remain calm in various situations and actively take responsibility for the children's well-being through continuous supervision and quick actions when needed. You need to be attentive and solution-oriented in your working approach.

We expect you to have good digital competence and be able to use digital tools effectively in your work. Proficiency in the Swedish language is a requirement. A driver's license and access to a car are needed for possible transfers between different units in the area. Knowledge of sign language, alternative communication, and Finnish is an advantage.

The Education and Labor Market department is one of the municipality's largest administrations with about 3,000 employees. Our operations are spread throughout the municipality, with approximately 35 primary schools, 87 preschools, 40 after-school programs, and four high schools. We work to ensure that children and youth have the tools they need to find their way in both the present and the future. We advocate for a holistic view and a coherent thread in development and learning from preschool through high school. A growing adult education program and a labor market unit focusing on those who need extra support are also part of the administration.
