Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University consists of 38 permanent staff members, distributed across three divisions: mathematics, mathematical statistics, and computational mathematics.

The Mathematics Department conducts research in various branches of mathematics, such as algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, complex analysis, logic, mathematical physics, operator theory, partial differential equations, representation theory, and number theory.

Project Description

The position is funded by Wushi Goldring's research grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the Swedish Research Council. We are looking for candidates working in arithmetic geometry and representation theory. We are particularly interested in:

• candidates who are interested in collaborating with Goldring to develop applications of group theory, especially for reductive groups, within their research areas
• candidates who are active within the Langlands program, Shimura varieties, flag varieties, and/or reductive groups and their generalizations, such as Coxeter groups and Kac-Moody groups.

Job Responsibilities

The main task is research. The position also includes a small amount of teaching, which may involve supervising students.

Eligibility Requirements

A postdoctoral researcher is defined as an employee primarily hired for research who has obtained a PhD or has a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD.

Assessment Criteria

The degree must have been obtained no later than when the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the PhD may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, elected positions within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments for the subject area.

In the appointment process, particular importance will be attached to scientific competence in the areas mentioned above.

About the Position

The position is full-time and is permanent, but for at least two years and at most three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date is 2025-09-01 or by agreement.
