Experienced Environmental Specialist with a Focus on Biology/Ecology

We are now looking for an experienced environmental specialist with a focus on biology/ecology for the project support unit in the project department. If you have experience and knowledge in environmental issues and want to develop in a role where you support project managers in their daily work, this could be the role for you.

We own, develop, and manage properties for total defense. Our main mission is to contribute to increased defense capability – for a safe and free Sweden.

Your Daily Work

The project support unit and its competent employees have the primary task of providing professional support to the department's project managers throughout the various phases of the construction process. The unit provides expert knowledge in a range of areas, such as environmental issues, calculations, technical supply systems within HVAC and electrical, as well as fire safety issues, to ensure that projects are carried out efficiently and sustainably.

Furthermore, the unit offers support to other departments in the work of developing design guidelines, manuals, and procurement support. With its deep experience and long-term perspective, the unit creates a secure foundation to meet both current and future challenges in construction projects.

Your Main Responsibilities

You will act as a competent and reliable client support throughout the project's duration, from the earliest stages to completion. An important part of the work is to develop guidelines for the Fortifications Agency's working methods and practices, ensuring that the project is carried out according to best practices and applicable guidelines.

The role of client support involves quality assurance and assessment of scope, level, scheduling, and reasonableness before procurement of nature value inventories. Additionally, it includes quality reviewing completed inventories to ensure that documentation and proposed measures meet established requirements and expectations.

Another important task is to review proposed assessments of relevant legislation affecting the project, particularly regarding species and habitats. By carefully reviewing proposed examination materials, such as exemptions and consultations, it is ensured that appropriate precautions and protective measures are in place to meet both legal requirements and the project's specific needs. This work is characterized by expert knowledge and a strong ability to handle complex and multifaceted issues in a safe and effective manner.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you have:

  • A university or college degree with a focus on biology/ecology.

You also have experience and familiarity with reading legislation and have had an advisory role in previous workplaces. You have good knowledge of EU species and habitat legislation, the species protection regulation, and practice. You have worked with practical application of nature value inventories and knowledge of assessing the results of completed inventories. A valid B driver's license is also required as travel is part of the job.

It is an advantage if you have training in environmental law and have experience in assessments in construction projects and land use based on species and habitat protection, as well as documented experience of at least 10 years in equivalent tasks.

Your personal qualities are important to us. We are looking for someone who is considerate and has an easy time understanding others' situations, listening, understanding, and showing care in your way of working and collaborating. You are structured and work according to a clear process, organizing and planning your work efficiently, completing what you start, and meeting deadlines. You are curious and keep yourself updated within your profession and area of expertise, as well as being active in monitoring the environment and spotting trends to stay ahead. Furthermore, you have analytical skills and can solve problems without losing focus on long-term strategies, while also seeing logic and connections in complex information and environments.

What Do We Offer You?

Together with approximately 1200 colleagues at the Fortifications Agency across the country, you will work with a unique property portfolio to strengthen total defense in Sweden. We are proud of the socially important mission we have, where by owning, developing, and managing properties for total defense, we contribute to a safe and free Sweden. Our tasks are varied, exciting, and challenging and require their competence. We work based on the state value foundation and strive for gender balance.
