Join the World's Largest Humanitarian Movement
The Red Cross is the world's largest humanitarian movement, present in 191 countries. When disaster strikes, we are already there to help vulnerable people, thanks in part to 16 million volunteers.
The Swedish Red Cross operates in crisis and disaster response, protection issues, as well as health and care. We have the trust to translate contributions from individuals, businesses, and authorities into concrete actions for the most vulnerable.
We fight to save lives and give hope, everywhere and every day. Regardless of your role, you contribute – in your profession and through action and courage. Welcome to our world!
The Swedish Red Cross has operations in the field of health and care. In Sweden, we run treatment centers for war-injured and tortured individuals, as well as health services for undocumented migrants and other migrants. We work to promote mental health and combat mental ill-health, both in Sweden and internationally.
As a Thematic Advisor
As a thematic advisor, you will be responsible for driving the health and care department's advocacy work nationally. You will contribute to policy development focusing on the right to rehabilitation for torture survivors, access to care for migrants, and mental health. Our current employee has chosen to move internally, and we are now looking for someone to help us take the next step in our advocacy and policy work.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence and shape humanitarian issues of concern.
About the Position
Through analysis and prioritization, you will contribute to strategic development, including the formulation of relevant positions and policies. The role includes monitoring the external environment, tracking legislation and guidelines in the field. You will be responsible for consultation responses and other writings and materials. You will represent the Red Cross in certain external forums, and the role includes proactive contacts with national authorities, politicians, and investigations, as well as support in regional contacts.
You are not an expert in all subject matters, but rather the engine that drives the work forward. The department has extensive expertise from licensed health and care professionals and other staff. You will collaborate with these individuals, draw on their expertise when needed, promote good dialogue, and ensure inclusion.
The position is located at the Health and Care department's support unit. You will report to the Deputy Head of Department and work closely with other staff in the unit, department, and the rest of the organization.
About You
To fit in this role, you have:
- relevant academic degree in social sciences, public health, or law
- at least six years of relevant work experience.
- solid knowledge of current political developments in the field, a good ability to formulate messages and identify improvement proposals targeting decision-makers, as well as the ability to communicate these messages in a constructive dialogue.
- very good experience in expressing yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
We would also like you to have experience working for and with people in vulnerable situations, such as knowledge of the rights of torture survivors and knowledge of access to care for migrants.
Personal experience from non-profit work within or outside the Red Cross movement is an advantage.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The position requires a strong ability to work independently, take responsibility, prioritize, and drive issues forward. You need to be a good communicator, able to share your expertise, include others' knowledge, and give others space. At the same time, you should be able to motivate, inspire, and get others to work towards common goals. In addition to your own areas of responsibility, you will contribute to the development of the department and need to be able to work with analysis and strategic development.
