Your Responsibilities

As a university lecturer in design, you will be involved in educating the future technical designers in the Master's program in Design and Product Development (DPU). Each year, approximately 90 new students are admitted to the program. They generally have high entry grades, are highly motivated, and perform well, making the teaching job exciting and stimulating. The undergraduate courses provide both fundamental design knowledge in methodology, sketching techniques, modeling techniques, computer modeling, computer graphics, ergonomics, and project management, as well as knowledge in other engineering subjects such as manufacturing technology, materials science, mathematics, economics, mechanics, strength of materials, and environmental technology. At the master's level, there is an optional profile in technical design with deepening and broadening within the design field. After the thesis work, which is conducted in collaboration with companies and researchers, students are sought after and quickly find jobs. In addition to design courses in the DPU program, the department also offers courses in a 2-year design master's program with several students from other countries. Teaching in the design master's program is conducted in English in collaboration with design teachers from other departments at the university. The work is meaningful, interesting, with great opportunities for development and social contacts with colleagues and interested students.

You will teach and supervise students primarily at the undergraduate level in Swedish, but also at the advanced level in English. The work includes course design, course development, examination, and course responsibility, as well as administrative tasks. The holder must be able to work at all levels of undergraduate education and collaborate with colleagues both within and outside the subject area.

As part of the position, you are expected to support students in developing fundamental design skills in methodology, sketching techniques, modeling techniques, computer modeling, computer graphics, ergonomics, project management, etc. As a university lecturer, teaching will occur in areas such as industrial design, technical design, and product development.

You share knowledge and contribute to the professional development of the workgroup, collegial working methods, and social community. Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a master's degree in industrial design or technical design or has equivalent competence, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skills.

For this position, special emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills.

The following will be assessed regarding pedagogical skills:

• Visualization skills with proficiency in sketching techniques, model making, CAD, and graphic programs are a requirement for the position.
• Documented proficiency in project work, design processes, and design methodology is a requirement for the position.

The following are meritorious regarding pedagogical skills:

• Pedagogical education.
• Pedagogical experience, within or outside academia.

Pedagogical skills are demonstrated through the ability to convey relevant knowledge and skills, activate students for their own learning, create engagement and interest in the subject area, and the ability to structure and organize both content and working methods in relation to the subject area's goals. Furthermore, pedagogical skills should be demonstrated through the ability to contribute to the development and renewal of education and the ability to reflect on one's own teaching practice.

Other skills that will be assessed for this position include:

• Practical professional skills from industry-related work in industrial design where products have been designed based on aesthetic, technical, ergonomic, and cognitive aspects.
• Education and professional experience in multiple design disciplines, e.g., graphic design, architecture, or UX design.
• Good collaborative skills and the ability to contribute to the development of the workgroup, collegial working methods, and social community.
• Good ability to structure, plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.

Since teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English, you must demonstrate the ability to teach in both languages.

A portfolio must be attached to the application documents:

• The portfolio should showcase examples from various design projects. It should also include examples of partial results from the design work, such as sketches, physical models, computer models, and mood boards.
• The portfolio should also display examples of artistic works.

Your Workplace

The position is located in Product Realization (PROD), one of 20 departments at the Department of Economic and Industrial Development (IEI). The department has broad expertise in design, PU methodology, construction, and production technology. On the design side, PROD currently includes two industrial designers, three technical designers, and two interior architects/furniture designers. In addition to four lecturers, there is currently one professor, three university lecturers, and one doctoral student in the field of design. Your workplace is in the A-building on Campus Valla in Linköping. Next to our offices is a large fully equipped workshop where students can realize design ideas with the help of skilled workshop staff.
