We offer you Nyströmska, an educational center centrally located in Söderköping with students in high school, adapted high school, adult education, and in the fall also adapted primary school grades 7-9. The school has an engaged staff group where many have worked for a long time. We are now looking for a special educator for intellectual disabilities to join our team, primarily for our students in the adapted high school's national program Health, Care, and Welfare, but the assignment may also be directed towards the individual program or the activities in grades 7-9 based on needs. We focus on knowledge and education, and our goal is for our students to develop as far as possible based on their conditions. With the guiding words "Close to you. Always." the focus at Nyströmska is to see each student, to help them grow as individuals, and to prepare them for their future.

• Currently, we have 6 students in grades 1, 2, and 3 in the Health, Care, and Welfare program and 3 students in grades 1 and 2 in the individual program within the adapted school.
• You will be part of the team for the adapted high school.
• At the school, there are several experienced colleagues within the adapted school, as well as a development teacher for adapted school from preschool to adult education.
• The school has an engaged student health team consisting of principals, special teachers/special educators, study and career counselors, curators, and school nurses.

Job Description

In your role as a special educator, you will primarily teach Swedish and social science subjects and have close collaboration with your colleagues. The position includes your own planning, teaching, and assessment, as well as mentorship. You are well acquainted with the school's governing documents and work based on the student's needs and interests, both individually and together with your colleagues. Your teaching is creative and aims to find strategies to strengthen your students, both academically and in their personal development. It is important for you to create conditions for good social interactions among the students. In your professional role, you are also expected to collaborate with other professionals and guardians, always with the student's best interests in focus.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a licensed teacher with a special education degree, focusing on intellectual disabilities, with a teaching degree in Swedish and social science subjects as a foundation. You have experience working in adapted schools, knowledge of students with intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as the pedagogical tools needed to support them. You should be well acquainted with alternative and augmentative communication and be a frequent user of assistive technology. You have worked to make lesson content accessible, for example, with visual support.

We are looking for someone who is equipped with good social skills and the ability to collaborate. You are creative, solution-oriented, and attentive to the individual needs of students. You create engagement and participation for both colleagues and students. It is required that you are calm and pedagogical with great patience and a good ability to create security for each student. Personal suitability is highly valued.
