About the job

If you are driven by a job with multiple points of contact and have experience at sea, you now have the opportunity to work as a Ship Inspector in the Maritime Supervision section at the Swedish Transport Agency. In this role, you will conduct supervision through inspections and checks, as well as operational controls over vessels and ports. In addition, you will also supervise safety, the environment, and working conditions on ships and shipping companies.

The work as a Ship Inspector is very outward-facing and involves extensive contacts with the shipping and shipbuilding industry, as well as related sectors both in Sweden and abroad. This means that you will travel both within and outside the country. The job includes on-call duty.

You will

  • inspect and survey Swedish and foreign vessels
  • review drawings and technical documentation
  • perform new construction/refurbishment and flagging inspections
  • conduct port state and flag state controls
  • be on-call for incidents and accidents.

You must have

  • a degree as a Ship Captain with senior experience at sea as a certified ship officer with qualifications according to STCW II/2; without limitations of operational area, or a degree as a Civil Engineer in naval architecture with several years of experience in ship design and shipbuilding industry.
  • good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English
  • a valid driving license (B).

It is meritorious if you also have

  • experience from technical inspection work on vessels at shipyards/refurbishment/new construction
  • experience from work in classification societies or the shipbuilding industry
  • experience from case management within a government agency.

The employment is permanent with placement in Gothenburg. Appointment according to agreement. We normally apply a probationary period. Employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.
