Gothenburg Detention Center is one of Sweden's five secure detention centers located in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's building in central Gothenburg. Gothenburg Detention Center has space for about 350 clients. At Gothenburg Detention Center, we employ correctional officers, psychologists, nurses, administrators, and intelligence operators. In total, we are about 300 employees who work daily with the important mission of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and to break the vicious cycle.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Are you looking for a new job? Do you want to be part of the justice chain? Do you have the ability to maintain order and security? Are you socially interested and curious about meeting people in a challenging yet exciting environment? Then we have the job for you.

Gothenburg Detention Center is one of five secure detention centers in Sweden. As a correctional officer, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with others to maintain a safe and secure environment and motivate clients towards a life without crime. Structure and clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You have daily contact with clients, conduct conversations, and are involved in the clients' processes during their detention period. Your work includes documenting and following up on client cases. As a correctional officer, you are the one who opens the door in the morning and locks it in the evening. You are responsible for searching and supervising clients and areas. There are good opportunities for development and specialization in the role depending on your interests.

If you have an interest and aptitude for technology and computers, there is also a need for staff in the detention center's monitoring center. Here we need you to be able to focus on multiple things at once and handle unforeseen events well. You primarily work to monitor operations, manage alarms, and communicate with staff in various parts of the detention center.

Our most important goal is to help our clients break patterns and thus reduce the risk of recidivism. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports. Working in a detention center means focusing on care and security based on clear routines. Some people are detained for long periods and only meet their lawyer and those who work at the detention center. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer to be professional and interested in meeting people.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. Regardless of your previous profession, you may be interesting to us as we seek employees with different backgrounds and experiences. In your professional practice, integrity is required, and you need to be able to distinguish between personal and private communication. The job requires you to express yourself well in both speech and writing in Swedish. You need to be able to act physically if the situation requires it. We place great importance on personal suitability.

You have a good overview of events and remain calm in stressful situations. It helps if you have a good sense of direction and are solution-focused. You need to have normal color vision.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
