Job Responsibilities

The main task of a PhD student is to engage in their doctoral education, which includes participation in research projects as well as doctoral courses.

The job responsibilities may also include teaching and other departmental work, but no more than 20% of the working time.

Qualification Requirements

Eligibility for doctoral education requires that the applicant has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp at advanced level, or has acquired equivalent competencies in some other way. To be admitted to doctoral education in chemistry with a focus on organic chemistry, approved courses in chemistry or relevant areas of chemistry covering at least 90 hp, including at least 40 hp of organic chemistry at advanced level, or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way are required. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

A master's degree in organic or medicinal chemistry, pharmacy, or equivalent experience.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, motivation, and independence, as well as how the applicant is assessed through their experience and competencies to have the abilities required to benefit from and develop within the doctoral education.

Desirable/meritorious

Knowledge and practical experience of NMR spectroscopy will be considered a very strong merit.

Knowledge and practical experience of organoboron chemistry will be considered a strong merit.

This project requires that you can work independently and that you have excellent collaboration skills, as the project involves collaboration with researchers from other universities and industry.

You should have relevant scientific experiences related to the project.

The selection of applicants will be based on undergraduate grades, educational profile, and any additional research experience in areas relevant to the research project. Such experience should be documented and included in your application, for example, through articles published in international peer-reviewed journals or through employment at companies or other institutions active in the specific research area. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualifications required for the project.

In the appointment of these positions, we strive to recruit individuals who, through a comprehensive assessment of competence, skills, and documented merits, are deemed most suitable to carry out and develop the current project and contribute to a positive development of the department.

PhD students are normally engaged for some teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels. Previous experience from teaching/mentoring, even from environments outside of school/university, as well as other outreach activities may therefore be meritorious.
