Department of Social Work (ISA)

The Department of Social Work (ISA) is responsible for the social work program, master’s program, doctoral education, and research in social work at Uppsala University.

The department conducts several research projects closely linked to the practice of social work, addressing social problems, their causes, and consequences at the individual, group, and societal levels. The research projects cover topics such as vulnerability among children, youth, and families, various forms of violence, mental health issues, elderly care, communication within social work, the work and working conditions of social services, disabilities, and legal studies.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes teaching, research/professional development, and administration. The teaching may involve several core areas of the social work program, such as domestic violence, migration, addiction, and social work with the elderly. Some teaching in other courses at the department may also occur. Teaching responsibilities include course management, course administration, supervision, and examination.

This position is based in Uppsala but may involve travel to Campus Gotland in Visby.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, candidates must have a PhD in social work, sociology, psychology, or equivalent scientific competence, demonstrated pedagogical skills, and the personal qualities required to perform the duties of the position effectively. Such personal qualities include the ability to work independently and the ability to collaborate in a team. A very good documented ability to teach and express oneself in writing in Swedish is required for eligibility.

Desirable/Meritorious

Knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

• domestic violence
• professional development in social work
• migration and social work
• addiction and dependency
• social work with the elderly

Experience in supervision at the undergraduate level and experience in method teaching is meritorious. Knowledge of quantitative methods is particularly meritorious. Work and experience in teaching within the Social Work Program, as well as other professional skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks included in the position, are also meritorious.

Assessment Criteria

In the selection among qualified applicants, great importance will be attached to pedagogical and scientific skills equally. Significant weight will also be given to the ability to teach the subject matter of the designated courses.

Documentation of pedagogical merits should include certificates and qualitative assessments from the program director or equivalent.

About the Position

The position is temporary, approximately 6 months. The extent is 100%. Start date is August 11, 2025, or by agreement. Place of employment: Uppsala.

Travel to Campus Gotland in Visby may occur as part of the position.
