PhD Candidate in Cancer Precision Medicine

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune, and genetic diseases. One of the fundamental ideas at the department is to stimulate translational research and thus a closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted in cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, as well as vascular biology. Parts of the activities are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several program educations, independent courses, and international master's programs within the medical faculty and the technical-nature sciences area. The department has a turnover of approximately 500 million SEK, of which just over half is external research grants. The number of employees is about 345, of which about 100 are PhD candidates, and there are a total of over 700 active in the workforce. Job Responsibilities

You will develop and study cell models for new treatment targets that have undergone loss of heterozygosity in colorectal cancer. You will create genetically modified cancer cells using CRISPR-SELECT and other advanced gene editing methods. You will characterize these models in terms of phenotypes and responses to various drugs used in cancer treatment.

Qualifications

Master's degree in the life sciences field. Documented experience in laboratory work with the culture of human cells.

Selection of applicants will be made by the supervisor in consultation with the department's doctoral education group. The doctoral education committee within the field of medicine-pharmacy will admit the PhD candidate. Salary placement will be according to local guidelines at Uppsala University.

For employment, it is required that the holder is admitted or will be admitted to doctoral education. Regulations for doctoral candidates can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5 §§1-7 and the university's rules and guidelines http://regler.uu.se/ (http://regler.uu.se/). The PhD candidate should primarily devote themselves to their own doctoral education. Other duties at the department, such as teaching and administrative work, may be included within the framework of the PhD position (max 20%). Doctoral education normally comprises 4 years of full-time study, a maximum of 5 years if departmental duties are included.

Desirable/meriting

Documented experience in CRISPR-based gene editing.

About the Position

The position is temporary, according to HF Chapter 5 § 7. The extent is full-time. Start date by agreement. Location: Uppsala
