Position as Assistant Professor in Signals and Systems

The position will be located at the Department of Signals and Systems at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The Department of Signals and Systems specializes in research within signal processing, control engineering, wireless communication and networks, robotics, and machine learning.

Job Description:

While the commercial development and installation of 5G systems are being implemented in several countries, research in wireless communication and networks has advanced to the next generation of wireless networks, known as 6G networks. Applicants for this position are expected to have a strong research background that aligns with a broad vision of, and challenges for, future generations of wireless networks. Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to, (i) new technologies for robust and reliable machine-to-machine communication with low latencies (ii) energy-efficient Internet of Things (IoT) networks, (iii) security and privacy in upcoming network generations, (iv) artificial intelligence and machine learning for and over wireless networks, (v) new connectivity technologies and improved coverage, such as integration between terrestrial networks and satellite networks, and (vi) applications for connected autonomous systems based on so-called edge-cloud computing architectures, intelligent transport systems, smart factories, etc.

Responsibilities:

Teaching, research, and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility and course administration as well as supervision of PhD students. The holder of the position is expected to develop the department's research and teaching in next-generation wireless communication systems and to establish contacts with relevant industries.

Follow developments in the own subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the work at the university.

The position may involve participation in some of the department's various research projects in the areas of Intelligent Systems, Signal Processing, Wireless Communication, and Control Engineering, as well as participation in applications for external research funding and, after a period, developing the capacity to attract external grants for own research. The holder is expected to participate in and lead research projects together with relevant industrial partners.

The holder of the position is also expected to contribute to broader teaching activities within the department and is expected to teach courses that may be outside the applicant's specific areas of expertise. Examples of such courses include electronics and digital technology, signals and systems, signal processing, and control engineering.

Employment Period:

The position as Assistant Professor can be held for a maximum of six years. The position aims at qualification for a teaching position for which higher requirements for eligibility are set. An Assistant Professor can apply for promotion to Associate Professor. If the Assistant Professor is deemed suitable and meets the requirements for promotion, he or she shall be promoted and tenured as Associate Professor.

Eligibility Requirements:

• PhD in a relevant field, including, but not limited to, wireless communication and networks, signal processing, microwave technology and antennas, control engineering, and optimization. Primarily, applicants who have obtained their PhD or have achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline will be considered.
• Scientific and pedagogical skills. It is required that the pedagogical skills and scientific competence are relevant to the subject area of the position and the tasks included in the position.
• The applicant should have completed university-level pedagogical training relevant to the university's activities, comprising five weeks, or have acquired equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment.
• Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English unless there are special reasons.
• Personal qualities required to perform the position well.
