GIL has been coordinating personal assistance since 1989. The cooperative has roots in the Independent Living movement, which is based on the principle that those with disabilities know best how they want to live their lives. Typically, the person receiving assistance is the closest supervisor of the assistants, or a person with specific knowledge about the individual is appointed.

As a personal assistant, you support a person with a disability to live the life they want to live. To attract and retain competent and satisfied assistants, we invest in training and events. We believe that development and meeting others lead to motivated and secure assistants who enjoy and find it fun to work with us.

Are you empathetic and engaged? Then a summer job as a personal assistant might be for you! With us, it’s not just a job – it’s a chance to help someone with a disability live their life on their own terms.

No experience? No problem! For us, it’s important that you have the right attitude and a willingness to help. Many times it’s more about your personal chemistry than previous experience or education. However, it is important that you speak and understand Swedish very well, as it often involves interpreting for the person receiving assistance in their surroundings.

What does a personal assistant do? As a personal assistant, the tasks vary depending on who you work with. It can involve everything from helping with meals, supporting with hygiene and dressing, to assisting someone in working, studying, being a parent, or meeting friends. It’s a meaningful job where you make a real difference in someone else's life!
