Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We Are Hiring!

Our main goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

In Mariestad, you will be employed across the entire operational area. This means you may be primarily placed at one of our prisons or the detention center in Mariestad. The operational area consists of the closed prison Johannesberg, the open prison Rödjan, and the Detention Center Mariestad. Currently, Mariestad has approximately 360 employees distributed across various professional categories and competencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/detention center are varied: care, surveillance, search, and security work mixed with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work at the detention center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • A completed upper secondary education or other education in combination with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service places great emphasis on personal suitability.
