Emergency Care in Kungälv

Kungälv Hospital is a smaller hospital just north of Gothenburg serving around 125,000 residents, largely from smaller coastal communities, and receives approximately 32,000 patients aged 16 and over per year in internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and trauma.

Emergency Physicians in Kungälv

The emergency physician initiative began in the autumn of 2017. By autumn 2026, we will have seven specialist physicians and 13 resident physicians (ST-physicians) working in emergency care with us.

As resident physicians, we follow SWESEM’s training plan for emergency care, and internal training is conducted in collaboration with other hospitals in the Gothenburg region, including SÄS. This means that approximately half of the residency position consists of on-call duties, courses, and work carried out both locally and regionally.

As a specialist, you have great opportunities to influence and develop operations and participate in further education.

Job Responsibilities

The role primarily involves working at the emergency department during day, evening, and night shifts. Time for administration and training is scheduled, and a sustainable work environment is a main focus.

As a specialist, your duties include supervising resident physicians. You are also expected to contribute to the development of working methods for the emergency physician group.

Since spring 2026, we have launched a Mobile Emergency Physician Team (MALT), staffed by specialists in emergency care. MALT offers patient-centered emergency care at home for patients who benefit from avoiding hospital stays.

You must hold a Swedish medical license and have work experience within Swedish inpatient care.
