The Centre for Medical Genomics (CMG) at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is looking for a Laboratory Technician for the Section of Sample Handling and Pre-analysis.

In this role, you will have a crucial part in the genetic diagnostic chain. By ensuring samples are handled correctly, you contribute to the diagnosis of cancers, hereditary diseases, and rare diagnoses. We offer a developing role in an area where new technology and operational development are a natural part of everyday life.

About Us

CMG is part of the Clinical Genetics and Genomics business area at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. We are responsible for genetic laboratory analyses within several medical specialties and contribute to the development of precision medicine in the Region of Västra Götaland.

Our laboratories are organized into the sections: Sample Handling and Pre-analysis, Cytogenetics, Quantitative PCR, Sanger/Fragment Analysis, and NGS (Next Generation Sequencing).

At our workplace, various professional groups work together in cross-professional teams focused on quality, development, and patient benefit.

Responsibilities

As a Laboratory Technician in the Section of Sample Handling and Pre-analysis, your tasks include:

• Receiving, checking, and registering samples and referrals in the laboratory information system (LIS).
• Labeling, scanning, and administering sample material and referrals.
• Handling biobanking and sending samples to external laboratories.
• Distributing laboratory results.
• Participating in the organization's quality assurance work.

The duties may also include sampling, simple laboratory work, sample transport, registry care, invoicing, and other administrative tasks.

The section is continuously developing with new digital solutions and working methods. Therefore, the role may change over time based on operational needs, offering the opportunity to contribute to the development of future laboratory support within Clinical Genetics and Genomics.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

• Has completed upper secondary education.
• Is trained as a nursing assistant, laboratory technician, or has other education or experience that the employer deems equivalent.
• Has very good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing, corresponding to at least level C1.

• Experience working in quality-assured or accredited operations.
