Research and education at the Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry (MGeo) address fundamental and applied questions regarding Earth's past, present, and future climate and environment, including human interaction with nature and its consequences for human well-being. MGeo develops and applies pioneering methods, models, and techniques within environmental science, Quaternary and bedrock geology, paleontology, physical geography, biodiversity and ecosystem science, remote sensing, geographic information science (GIS), and computational science in environmental and health sciences to study processes ranging from the microscopic to the planetary, across all time scales.
Job Description
The Project Assistant will support the analysis and synthesis phase of the pilot study "Extreme-Loss," which investigates the socio-ecological effects of climate change on the agricultural sector in Turkey, and provide support for analyses in the project "UNBREAK," where solutions for sustainable land use are mapped globally. Examples of tasks may include:
- Identifying and collecting relevant digital data (e.g., land use, water, economic indicators, migration) for the case study and the global analysis.
- Conducting correlation analyses of the collected data.
- Working with the results of a literature review to synthesize the state of knowledge and identify research gaps.
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team within social and natural sciences.
- Participating in activities at the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) and relevant activities within the strategic research area Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate (BECC).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in geography, geoinformatics, environmental science, sustainability science, or a related field.
- Experience with data analysis using scripting languages such as Matlab, Python, and R.
- Experience working with earth observation data and visualizing data in maps and charts.
- Documented experience in remote sensing, GIS tools, and spatiotemporal analysis.
- Excellent command of English.
- Knowledge of Turkish.
- Ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Additional Merits:
- Experience in academic writing and contributing to research articles as part of collaborative projects.
- Experience in research related to climate change, agriculture, or migration.
- Experience working in Turkey and/or the Middle East.

Conditions
Fixed-term employment, 6 months. Full-time, 100%.
