Do you want to help create a safe and supportive school environment where students can develop and thrive? We are looking for an engaged school counselor for Önstaskolan!

Your responsibilities

You will contribute to creating a safe and inclusive school environment where students can develop and feel well. You will support students both in their academic work and in their psychosocial working environment at school. You work preventively at the individual, group, and class levels, and provide supervision to teachers and other staff based on your expertise. You also provide guidance to guardians, conduct training initiatives on values and ethics, and analyze learning environments to promote developmental working methods. By building good relationships, you collaborate with various stakeholders and contribute to identifying and driving new development initiatives.

In the student health team, we strive to develop preventive and health-promoting work. You will work with both general and targeted measures, as well as certain investigation assignments. Your expertise will also be used to contribute to the school's systematic quality work. Collaborating with external actors such as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP), social services, and family centers, among others, will also be part of your assignment. As a counselor, you will participate in joint method days and professional supervision together with the city's other counselors.

Your qualifications

We are looking for you who are educated as a social worker or have another education deemed relevant, for example, in behavioral sciences. You have good experience working with children and young people, preferably within schools or other support activities. You have good computer skills and prior knowledge of ICT. If you have experience working as a school counselor or experience working in a lower secondary school, we consider this an asset for the position.

With secure pedagogical leadership, engagement, and clarity, you create participation, trust, and good collaborations with students, guardians, and colleagues. You are structured and plan, organize, and prioritize your work, while flexibly adapting your work to the students' needs and changing conditions. Collaboration is a natural part of your work, both in planning and in sharing knowledge and experiences.

We offer

Önstaskolan is a primary school with operations from grade 7 to 9, located at Önsta Center in the northern part of Västerås. Approximately 450 students and 60 staff members work here. At Önstaskolan, there are many adults around the students. Safety surveys conducted every semester show that students are happy and are seen by many adults during the school day. The common café located in the middle of the school is a natural meeting place during breaks. Önstaskolan also offers adapted primary education for grades 7–9.

Additional information

Before you can be employed, we conduct a register check, and you need to present an approved extract from the police register.

The position is a fixed-term employment extending until 2027-02-28.

In connection with the interview, you need to prove your citizenship. You can do this with a passport or alternatively a certificate of residence together with an ID document. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, you must show that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the requirement to have a work permit. Employment can only take place after verification of the work permit, which is required according to the Aliens Ordinance.
