About the Role

This position is a direct hire, meaning the recruitment process is handled by Bravura and you will be employed directly by Mestergruppen.

About the Company

Mestergruppen Sweden is an association of independent business owners. Under their umbrella are well-known chains such as XL-BYGG, BOLIST, Happy Homes, Colorama, and Mal Proff AB. Together, they are market leaders in the building materials trade in Sweden, with approximately 275 stores across the country. In addition, the operation includes around 175 paint specialty stores, making them one of Sweden's largest players with an extensive store network. Mestergruppen is a values-driven organization, and their shared values – reliable, efficient, proactive, and team players – are central to everything they do.

Their service center in Solna consists of approximately 90 dedicated employees and offers support in areas such as purchasing, master data, marketing, e-commerce, finance, logistics, business systems, as well as store development and establishment. As a support function to their members and shareholders, they have an important mission: to provide products, services, and competence that enable the stores in their chains to be profitable, efficient, and successful. The Mestergruppen Sweden service center is part of the Mestergruppen Group, headquartered in Oslo, and they strongly believe in the power of a group-wide working approach.

Mestergruppen has modern facilities located at the top of Solna Gate, featuring a gym, sports hall, and restaurant within the building.

As Category Manager, you will become a central part of Mestergruppen's purchasing department, with strategic responsibility for assortment, supplier relations, and profitability within the categories of power tools, workwear, flooring, as well as adhesives and sealants. You will combine strategic work with tenders, negotiations, and category development with operational tasks such as implementation in the store network and follow-up of purchasing statistics and results. The role requires strong business acumen, excellent analytical skills, and strong negotiation abilities. You have a strong interest in building materials and house construction, and good market understanding is an advantage.

You will collaborate closely with chains, members, suppliers, and internal support functions such as master data, marketing, sustainability, and sales, contributing to ensuring that new products and solutions reach the members. The position does not involve personnel responsibility, but you will have significant mandate to drive change, improvements, and development within your categories. Introduction and areas of responsibility will be adapted to your background and experience.

Examples of tasks:

  • Responsible for assortment, purchase prices, and supplier agreements within your categories
  • Conduct tenders and drive category development
  • Create category and assortment plans based on market needs
  • Negotiate and develop supplier collaborations

  • A Master's degree in areas such as industrial economics, economics, purchasing, or other relevant fields is meritorious

As a Category Manager, you thrive in a dynamic and changing environment where you have significant responsibility and the opportunity to influence. You are self-reliant, proactive, and confident in making your own decisions, while collaborating closely with colleagues, members, and suppliers. With strong analytical skills, a structured working method, and a clear focus on results, you make well-founded business decisions. You have the ability to see both the details and the big picture.
