About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.

Kronoberg Remand Prison is a high-security facility located on Kungsholmen in central Stockholm, with easy access to good public transport. The operations include a security department, intake and arrest, isolation-breaking activities, as well as departments for both communal living and restricted conditions. Here, employees and managers work together to create a safe, legally secure, and well-functioning operation for both clients and colleagues.

As an employee, you will be part of an important societal mission in an operation that offers a stable and routine-based work environment, although needs and conditions may vary during the workday. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service offers good development opportunities within the agency if you wish to specialize or further your career.

Job Description

As a prison officer, you will have varied tasks where you will be part of a team and have daily contact with clients. You will work in a closed environment with high security and confidentiality. As a prison officer, you will perform varied but routine-driven interventions focusing on care and security tasks. You will be responsible for opening and locking cell doors, conducting isolation-breaking activities with clients, and distributing food and medication. Furthermore, inspections of premises and clients are part of the daily work. The role also includes some administrative duties.

Clients may be held in remand for long periods, which places special demands on you as a prison officer regarding professional treatment of people in crisis. An employment at Kronoberg Remand Prison means developing and complex work together with good colleagues who support each other. You must be able to switch between sitting in difficult conversations, conducting inspections, and acting physically or responding to an alarm while maintaining a safe working method.

Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your mission, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a human view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development.

You begin your employment at the workplace where you receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you are offered a place in the Prison and Probation Service's basic education, which is mandatory and lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, continuous assessments are made regarding your possibility of permanent employment.

Qualifications

Your personal qualities are important. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operation, so you need good teamwork skills and clear communication. You must be able to act physically when required.

For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a human view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief in human will and ability to develop.
