Are you passionate about fire safety? We are looking for a colleague as Fire Safety Officer for one of Europe's most forward-looking research facilities within Life Science. We warmly welcome your application!
About SciLifeLab
SciLifeLab is a national centre for molecular biosciences, established on behalf of the government. The operations are run in collaboration between KTH, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. The purpose is to enable advanced research that would otherwise not be possible in Sweden.
The primary node of the operations is SciLifeLab Campus Solna, a workplace for approximately 1,300 researchers and infrastructure staff. Premises and laboratories are continuously adapted to meet current safety requirements and technical standards related to ongoing research projects.
About the department/group
The Site Support group is responsible for the operation, development, and availability of the physical infrastructure at Campus Solna. The working group consists of eight employees focused on research support.
Responsibilities
The role of Fire Safety Officer is estimated to cover 50–60 percent of a full-time position. The remaining time is allocated to shared functions within Site Support, where the administration of rental processes constitutes a central part. The position requires close coordination with the lab safety coordinator and fire safety manager to ensure regulatory compliance.
Responsibility for flammable substances
In this role, you are responsible, among other things, for:
- Ensuring that the storage and handling of flammable substances comply with current regulations.
- Conducting and following up on risk assessments, and ensuring that routines and instructions are followed.
- Coordinating contact with authorities, permit issues, and supervision matters.
- Developing, updating, and managing documentation, routines, and governing documents.
- Planning and conducting training initiatives, such as fire safety and safety inductions.
The responsibility as Fire Safety Officer covers preventive safety work and does not include on-call duties.
Safety, coordination, and operational support
- You have a central function in the overall safety work and work closely with the fire safety manager and lab safety coordinator.
- In the role, you are expected to have a good overview of the operations working with flammable substances.
- You contribute to the coordination between research, operations, and safety to ensure a safe and well-functioning research environment.
Other duties
The work combines safety issues with service and support to the operations. The tasks also include:
- Administering the rental process, including reporting, preparing rental basis for the invoicing group, handling vacant premises, and updating the rental system Pythagoras.
- Planning, coordinating, and following up on fire safety work, inspections, and supervision visits.
- Working with issues within chemical safety, lab safety, environment, and working environment.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in technical or natural science subjects, or equivalent competence acquired through work experience that the employer deems relevant.
- You speak and write Swedish and English fluently, as this is required in daily work.
- Experience from working in research labs.
- You have at least five years of experience working with flammable substances, laboratory safety, chemical safety, systematic fire safety work, or other related safety activities.
Personal qualities
We are looking for you who have high social competence. You thrive working with many different contact areas simultaneously, such as tenants, other support departments, and functions. To succeed in this role, you need to be attentive to others and capture their needs.
It is important for the role that you are experienced, confident, and independent in your work. This is because the work requires daily interaction with academic operations at all levels. You are accustomed to taking responsibility for your work, following up with colleagues, and driving issues forward on your own.
The role places high demands on flexibility as the work takes place in a changing and complex environment. You can adapt your work and quickly shift gears when conditions change.
Merits
- Experience as a Fire Safety Officer.
- Experience with fire safety issues.
- Experience working with rental issues, such as administration of rental systems like Pythagoras and allocation of space to tenants.
- Experience working with researchers and professors regarding research labs.
- Experience with public sector employment.
A typical profile could be an Intendant, Manager, or Facility Manager at a university, preferably with lab operations experience, who has worked broadly with similar issues.
We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
