AVL is one of the world’s leading mobility technology companies for development, simulation, and testing in the automotive industry and beyond. The company provides concepts, solutions, and methodologies in fields such as vehicle development and integration, e-mobility, automated and connected mobility (ADAS/AD), and software for a greener, safer, and better world of mobility.
Are you ready to take the next step in Functional Safety and work close to technology development in a fast-growing and innovative industry?
We are looking for a Functional Safety Engineer who wants to help create safe, smart, and sustainable vehicles through structured safety work and modern development methods.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to combine technology, analysis, and communication in a team where collaboration, curiosity, and quality are at the center.
As a Functional Safety Engineer, you will work closely with the development teams to ensure that safety requirements are met throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will support mechatronics, software, and system engineers in implementing functional safety aspects and ensure that development complies with ISO 26262. By working in tools such as SystemWeaver, DOORS, or Elektra, you will manage safety-related requirements and create traceability between specification, implementation, and test results.
You will also use MATLAB/Simulink to analyze functions and contribute to ensuring that safety requirements are understood and implemented correctly. Part of the role involves participating in verification and validation activities, as well as ensuring that development processes follow quality frameworks such as Automotive SPICE and CMMI.
In your daily work, you will collaborate cross-functionally both internally and externally—with colleagues, suppliers, and other technical parties—to gather information, investigate issues, and contribute to solutions that maintain high safety and quality levels. You will participate in meetings and technical reviews where you represent the safety perspective and actively work to ensure that both functionality and quality meet project requirements.
Profile
We are looking for you who are passionate about safety, system development, and advanced technology—and who thrive in a role where structure, communication, and analytical skills are crucial.
We believe you have:
- Experience working with Functional Safety in vehicle development.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechatronics, software, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in the Functional Safety domain.
- Good knowledge of ISO 26262.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and requirements management tools (SystemWeaver, DOORS, Elektra, or similar).
- Experience working according to software and quality processes such as CMMI and Automotive SPICE.
- Fluency in Swedish and English.
- A valid driver’s license (Category B).
As a person
You are communicative and team-oriented, easily building relationships and thriving in cross-functional teams. Your positive and solution-focused attitude enables you to tackle complex issues with curiosity and drive, and you have a strong desire to develop and continuously learn.
In your work, you are structured, analytical, and meticulous, and you have a knack for understanding technical contexts and contributing clear, constructive perspectives. You enjoy working according to established processes while remaining flexible enough to adapt when projects require it.
What we offer
At AVL, you become part of a global technology company at the forefront of development, simulation, and testing for the future of mobility. As the world’s largest independent player in the field, with over 12,000 employees internationally, we drive innovation for a greener, safer, and better world of mobility.
Our focus spans the entire value chain—from early idea and concept phases to industrialization and series production. We work with advanced technology in electrification, software, autonomous driving, digitalization, and energy-efficient powertrains, helping our customers shape the mobility solutions of the future.
With us, you will find a workplace where you can grow, influence, and drive technology development forward—making a real difference for the future of mobility!
