Workplace Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine (ILM) is one of seven departments at the Faculty of Medicine. We conduct leading research within the field of laboratory medicine, focusing on understanding the onset of diseases and improving diagnostics and treatment for patients. Some of our strongest research areas, featuring world-class operations, are cancer, genetics, and blood research.

The department has approximately 300 employees and an annual turnover of around 500 million SEK, the majority of which consists of external research grants.

The ILM administrative office consists of 14 employees: one administrative coordinator, two HR partners, one HR administrator, seven economists, and two economic administrators, all led by an administrative manager. The main task of the office is to relieve the core operations and enable high-quality research and education. The office is responsible for ensuring that the university meets both external requirements and laws as well as internal rules and guidelines. The work is carried out with a focus on using resources efficiently based on the needs of the operations and available funds.

Tasks and Responsibilities

As an economist with us, you will become part of our dedicated and competent economics group. The role has a special focus on qualified project reporting linked to larger and more complex research projects, such as EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon Europe and NordForsk) with multiple partners.

Your main tasks include:

  • Project reporting, with a special focus on larger and complex projects (e.g., EU)
  • Budgeting and economic planning
  • Accounting work
  • Economic advisory
  • Follow-up and analysis of projects and operations
  • Invoice management

In addition to the tasks mentioned above, other administrative tasks within the economic field may occur.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Economics or another academic education with equivalent content deemed comparable
  • Good practical experience in economic management and accounting
  • Experience in qualified project reporting, preferably from larger and more complex projects, such as EU-funded projects (e.g., Horizon Europe, NordForsk) and projects with multiple partners
  • Good administrative skills and a structured approach to work
  • Good collaboration skills
  • Ability to work goal-oriented and deliver results within given timeframes
  • Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English, as the department operates in an international environment
  • Good digital competence and experience working in economic systems, as well as the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new digital tools, including using AI-based tools as support in your work
  • Ability to take responsibility for your tasks and drive cases independently from start to finish with high quality
  • A structured approach to work with good ability to prioritize between tasks
  • Ability to handle periods of high workload
  • A solution-oriented attitude and the ability to identify opportunities even in challenging situations
  • Good ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new tasks and situations, as well as commitment to your responsibilities
  • Ability to build good relationships and contribute to a well-functioning collaboration in the workplace
  • Good collaboration skills with the ability to see others' perspectives and value both results and relationships
  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness, combined with a pragmatic attitude when the situation requires it

Merits for the employment include:

  • Experience of working within the higher education sector
  • Experience with economic systems, such as Raindance, and work in EU portals or similar systems
  • A proactive and positive attitude towards work

Other

The position is a permanent full-time (100%) employment, with immediate start or as agreed. A probationary period of 6 months may be applied.
