At the Department of Diagnostics and Intervention, we conduct research and teach within nine different subject areas in close collaboration with the four regions of Norrland. We have internationally recognized research environments where the breadth of subject areas enables innovation and cross-border collaboration. Most of our researchers and teachers work clinically, and our premises are located at the regional hospitals in Östersund, Sunderbyn, Sundsvall, and Umeå - right in the middle of the operations.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include teaching and supervision in the subject area of surgery at the undergraduate and advanced levels of the medical program. Teaching within other programs and courses and/or in related subject areas may be included, as well as teaching in general competencies included in a professional education. Teaching will partly take place using internet-based distance methods. The teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. The responsibilities include research and development work, as well as teaching and supervision at the doctoral level in surgery. Administrative tasks and assignments within the department and the Faculty of Medicine are included. Leadership of personnel and operations is included as the lecturer is expected to lead their own research group. Leadership of personnel and operations within teaching in the capacity of study director/course coordinator (or similar) may be included.

The employment is permanent and full-time. The main workplace is Sunderbyn, but work at other locations may occur.

The position as University Lecturer is combined with employment as a specialist-trained surgeon at Region Norrbotten, which entails clinical duties to the extent of up to 13 hours per week.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a University Lecturer, one must have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency and have obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence.

To be eligible for employment, the applicant must have documented ability to teach in Swedish and English. If special reasons exist, someone who does not have the ability to teach in Swedish may be considered, but is then expected to acquire this ability within two years from the date of employment.

Since the employment is combined with employment as a specialist-trained surgeon, a medical license and a specialist certificate in surgery are requirements for employment, and clinical proficiency is a qualification requirement. In addition, necessary language skills in Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian (according to the National Board of Health and Welfare's definition) are required to be eligible.

The applicant is expected to demonstrate a certain degree of scientific independence and must be able to present their own, current research program.

The applicant is further expected to have completed higher education pedagogy equivalent to 7.5 credits or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. If the applicant does not have this at the time of application, a pedagogical development plan must be drawn up so that the knowledge can be acquired within two years from the date of employment.
