Ellen Fries Gymnasium is a municipal upper secondary school with just over 600 students. The school offers many different educational pathways, including school-based education and apprenticeships. Within the framework of the introduction program, there are several different variants. The school has many sports students who are either studying at the National Sports School (NIU) or the Local Sports School (LIU).

The position is fixed-term for the period from 2026-08-10 to 2026-12-31, with a possibility of extension.

Description of Duties

As a counselor, you will be part of the comprehensive student health team, working promotively and preventively together with teachers to create a positive learning environment and ensure the well-being of students. You will also provide consultation and supervision to work teams, class teams, and individual educators regarding students or groups. The role involves working with psychosocial interventions directly targeted at individual students or groups. Responsibilities also include monitoring and following up on students with high absenteeism, meeting with students in both planned and spontaneous conversations, conducting presentations in classes on various topics, and maintaining contact with guardians and external agencies such as social services and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP). Contact with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, CSN (Swedish Board of Student Finance), and other authorities may also occur. The role will also include certain tasks related to the future labor market and planning study plans adapted to the student's needs for those studying the Introduction Program for Vocational Introduction (IMY).

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in social work or behavioral science with a focus that the employer considers relevant for the position. The work requires very good Swedish skills in both speech and writing. Experience working as a school counselor is considered an advantage.

You are secure, stable, and maintain your composure even in pressurized or emotionally demanding situations that may arise in student health services. You collaborate well with the school's various professions and meet students, guardians, and colleagues in a listening and respectful manner. You have a good ability to create trusting relationships and build long-term contacts, which is an important part of supporting students. You are empathetic and easily able to put yourself in the shoes of students in different life situations, enabling you to provide professional and secure support.

Uppsala Municipality applies individual and differentiated salary setting according to the current collective agreement.
