The Mother Tongue Unit is a support function within the Department of Children and Education. Together with primary schools, special needs primary schools, upper secondary schools, special needs upper secondary schools, and adult education, we have the important mission of providing students with the prerequisites to develop rich and active multilingualism and achieve good results in other subjects.
About the Role
We are currently recruiting mother tongue teachers and study support staff for the following languages for the 2026/2027 school year:
- Dari: 10% study support (sh)
- Turkish: 25% study support (sh)
- Kinyarwanda: 20% study support (sh)
- Arabic: approx. 80% mother tongue instruction (mm) and study support (sh), weeks 35 to 52
As a mother tongue teacher, you are responsible for planning and delivering instruction in your mother tongue in accordance with current guidelines for primary and upper secondary education. The role also includes assessment and grading. As a study support staff member, you support students in various school subjects using their mother tongue. You collaborate closely with subject teachers and plan and deliver study support based on the student's needs and in consultation with subject teachers or mentors.
You are a confident and communicative person. Your teaching is accessible, and you can adapt your methods to suit a heterogeneous group. You build trusting relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. You have a well-developed ability to work systematically and handle changes by maintaining your calm and direction.
Teaching is conducted with students in groups or individually across several municipal school units. The work is largely on-site, but remote teaching for older students is also common. Therefore, the position requires you to be able to travel independently to and from workplaces throughout Norrtälje Municipality, and you must be flexible regarding geographical placement.
