Do you want to combine qualified payroll work with business development and contribute to shaping the future of payroll processes?
We are now looking for a payroll consultant with a special interest in development, digitalization, and improvement work – someone who wants to make a real difference in our organization.
Description
Since April 1, 2025, Karlstad Municipality has had a centralized payroll management system where all payroll administration is consolidated in a shared Payroll Center. The unit consists of 21 permanent payroll consultants and a payroll manager, who together are responsible for driving and developing the municipality's payroll process.
The Payroll Center is in an active development phase with a focus on standardization, digitalization, and efficiency improvements in working methods. Our mission is to ensure uniform, legally secure, and quality-assured payroll management, as well as to ensure that the correct salary is paid out on time to all employees within Karlstad Municipality.
Your Role
As a payroll consultant, you play a central role where you combine operational payroll work with active responsibility for business development. You contribute to developing and streamlining our processes, working methods, and system support, while ensuring high quality in daily payroll tasks.
Responsibilities
- Register, check, and quality-assure payroll data according to current regulations and procedures
- Provide support, guidance, and advice to managers and employees regarding payroll issues, systems, and processes
- Plan and conduct training and information initiatives
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and authorities on matters related to salaries, agreements, and compensations
Development Focus in the Role:
- Drive and participate in development and improvement work within the payroll process
- Identify areas for improvement and propose new working methods
- Work with process mapping, standardization, and efficiency
- Contribute to digitalization and the development of system support
- Monitor and analyze the quality and efficiency of payroll work
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have post-secondary education in payroll, system science, or another relevant direction, or equivalent experience. You have several years of experience in qualified payroll work, preferably from larger organizations or the public sector.
We also see that you have good experience working in payroll systems and an understanding of how system support and processes are interconnected, which is an important prerequisite for contributing to improvement and development work.
Meritorious
- Experience with Heroma
- Knowledge of municipal agreements (AB)
- Experience in development work
Personal Competencies
To thrive and succeed in the role, we see that you are structured and meticulous, with the ability to work methodically even in complex matters. You have an analytical approach and can quickly familiarize yourself with how processes, regulations, and system support interact. By seeing the big picture, you can identify causes of problems, understand the consequences of changes, and contribute to solutions that work across the entire organization.
You are driven by development and have a natural interest in improving working methods, routines, and processes. You take initiative, drive issues forward, and turn ideas into concrete improvements with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user benefit.
Since the role involves many contact points, you have good collaboration skills and build trusting relationships. You communicate clearly and pedagogically and can adapt your message to the recipient, whether it concerns managers, employees, or colleagues.
