Job Description

As a Lead Designer, you are responsible for the design discipline in construction projects from early stages to finished construction documents. The role involves clear technical, economic, and quality responsibility, with a particular focus on static calculations, dimensioning, and selection of load-bearing systems.

You work closely with clients, architects, and other disciplines, acting as the main technical contact in projects. A normal work week consists of technical calculation work, coordination and design meetings, mentoring designers, as well as reviewing and quality assurance of documents.

Projects vary in size and complexity and may include security-classified assignments. The role can develop over time into larger project responsibilities, specialist roles within advanced statics, or broader technical leadership within AFRY.

The position is located in Umeå or Mora.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role of Lead Designer, you have a solid technical foundation and many years of experience in building construction. You are confident in making technical decisions, leading design work in projects, and taking responsibility for quality, time, and economy.

Requirements for the role:

• At least 8 years of experience as a building designer
• Very strong competence in static calculations and dimensioning
• Documented experience working according to Eurocodes and BBR
• Experience driving assignments with responsibility for quality, time, and economy
• Good knowledge of Revit and/or Tekla
• Very good Swedish language skills (written and spoken)
• Valid driver's license (Class B)

In addition, you have strong analytical skills and a structured approach to work, enabling you to handle complex technical challenges and find robust, cost-effective solutions. You thrive in a leading technical role and have an easy time collaborating and communicating with both colleagues and customers.

Meritorious qualifications include:

• Experience with complex projects, such as hospitals, defense facilities, or security-classified buildings
• Advanced competence in steel and/or concrete structures
• Certifications or specialist roles within design or construction project management
