Do you want to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a given? Here, you will work with dedicated colleagues, have access to modern research infrastructure, and enjoy good opportunities to attract external funding. You will be given the space to make a real difference for your students, your research, and society at large.
The subject of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) at Luleå University of Technology is expanding its operations within distributed and decentralized architectures, industrial digitalization, decision support systems, and adaptive cyber-physical infrastructures in close collaboration with Swedish and European industry.
This recruitment is strategically important to strengthen research and teaching in areas related to distributed systems, scalable ledger technology, industrial planning automation, and formal methods. Additionally, several senior researchers are expected to retire within the next five years, creating a need to ensure long-term capacity in research, supervision, external funding, and teaching at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels.
Subject Description
Cyber-Physical Systems focuses on integrated software and application architectures with implementations of highly distributed embedded systems that interact with each other and their environment to enable secure, goal-oriented, autonomous, and scalable solutions.
Job Responsibilities
The position involves research, teaching, and pedagogical development within the subject area. The aim is for the workload to be distributed approximately 65% research and doctoral supervision and 35% teaching and undergraduate supervision. The research component will mainly involve collaborative projects with Swedish and European industry, where applied research is combined with scientific methods and experimental research in computer science, particularly in distributed systems, scalable ledger technology, industrial digitalization, decision support systems, and automation of manufacturing planning processes. The research is expected to cover both theoretical and practical aspects, including the use of formal methods. The teaching component will primarily cover areas related to the assessment criteria, including formal methods, distributed data processing, software development, and industrial digitalization. Teaching may take place at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The position also involves contributing to the development of research proposals and applications for external research funding at both the national and European levels.
Qualifications
To meet the requirements for employment as an Assistant Professor, the applicant must:
- have completed a doctoral degree, or have a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree.
Priority should be given to those who have completed their doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline. However, those who have completed their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
Assessment Criteria
The following assessment criteria apply to the position:
- scientific competence
- other assessment criteria
The following additional assessment criteria apply to this position and are weighted equally:
- level of expertise required for qualification
- teaching experience in higher education
- ability to collaborate with Swedish and European industry
- ability to communicate research and software development work
- ability to teach in Swedish and English
Emphasis will be placed on scientific and pedagogical potential in distributed data processing, scalable ledger technology, and industrial planning automation. Experience of industrial collaboration, interdisciplinary research environments, and the ability to communicate research results and software-related development work to both academic and industrial audiences will be considered important merits.
Qualifying qualifications include documented expertise in distributed systems, blockchain technology, scalable transaction processing, industrial automation, assembly line planning, and decision support systems. Experience in interdisciplinary research combining computer science and industrial engineering is considered particularly valuable. Experience from collaboration with industry, particularly in manufacturing, digitalization, or automation initiatives, as well as international research experience, is also seen as meritorious.
Employment Duration
This position is for a fixed term of four years.
Assessment for Associate Professorship
The purpose of the employment is to give the teacher the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for qualification for a position as Associate Professor.
