Ovako in Smedjebacken is now looking for an Automation Engineer who wants to develop, optimize, and future-proof our production facilities. Here you will have a central role in a modern steel industry where technology, production, and sustainable development go hand in hand.

Your Role

As an Automation Engineer, you work close to production and are responsible for the operation, development, and improvement of our automation systems. The role combines practical problem-solving with long-term development work and gives you the opportunity to influence both the plant's availability and future investments.

You will become an important part of our technical team and collaborate daily with production, maintenance, and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Operation, maintenance, and development of automation systems.
  • Troubleshooting, analysis, and optimization of process equipment and control systems.
  • Involvement in acute operational disruptions and preventive maintenance.
  • Development and improvement of HMI, control, and drive systems.
  • Participation in projects related to investments, new installations, and reconstructions.
  • Preparation of technical specifications and tender inquiries.
  • Ensuring backup and documentation for control systems.
  • Updating function descriptions and technical documentation.
  • Analysis and documentation of electrical and automation-related disturbances.
  • Reporting in the company's maintenance system.
  • Training and support for staff when introducing new technology and equipment.

We are looking for you who

Are technically interested, analytical, and thrive in a production-oriented environment. You like to take responsibility, work systematically, and find solutions to complex technical problems. At the same time, you are a team player who appreciates collaboration across departmental boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC systems.
  • Knowledge of HMI systems.
  • Experience with DCS systems.
  • Experience from the process industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).

Meritorious

  • Experience from the steel industry, rolling mills, or metal processing industry.
  • Experience with Siemens or ABB systems.
  • Experience in project management or participation in technical investment projects.
