As a student assistant, you are an important part of the students' whole day where you together with special needs teachers, preschool teachers and after-school club teachers give our students the best conditions.

Your role with us

As a student assistant, you work to help and stimulate students in need of special support to learning, development and independence both individually and in groups with a low-affective approach. The work involves creating a safe environment and frameworks for the students with a focus on studies and conditions for developing cooperation and relationships in school. The work is carried out on behalf of the responsible teacher based on the current curriculum. You support students throughout the school day both in the classroom and during breaks and in the after-school club, in meal and hygiene situations as well as during other activities.

The work involves constant attention, analysis and understanding of situations in and outside the classroom. In close collaboration with teachers and other student assistants, you strive to find individual solutions so that each student can benefit from the teaching in the best possible way. Understanding each other's professional roles is of utmost importance. Contact and cooperation with guardians is an important part of the work as well as active participation in the development of the workplace and taking responsibility for one's own personal competence development. The work can be physically demanding and mentally stressful.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who have one of the following:

• High school diploma from the Child and Youth program with a focus on pedagogical and social work
• Passed the vocational package Student Assistant within adult education or equivalent education to student assistant within folk high school
• Degree/passed from equivalent education that the employer considers sufficiently extensive within pedagogy and children's development and learning.
• Meets parts of the educational requirements and has at least three years of work as a student assistant

If you have documented experience as a student assistant, it is meritorious as well as if you have other experience of similar tasks or alternative work experience. Experience of working with people with functional variations is a requirement. We want you to have an understanding of the role as a student assistant and that you are sensitive to the student's needs. Of course, you have good pedagogical skills and we see it as an advantage if you have knowledge of the curriculum. You need to have knowledge of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and challenging behavior as well as knowledge of care and hygiene situations.

You need to be able to choose courses of action within the pedagogical methods and techniques that the school works with. We also want you to have the ability to stimulate, enthuse and motivate the students in their development and have a good ability to meet children of school age. You are a balanced and stable person with a professional approach and can handle situations that arise in a safe and calm way, which means that you are a responsible, calm and patient person.

To succeed in your task as a student assistant, it is important that you have empathetic ability and can cooperate. Since the work can be physically demanding, it requires that you have good physical fitness. For the work, it is required that you can cycle and that you are a swimmer as well as that you have a B driving license.

We would like you to have knowledge of:

• Knowledge of tube feeding
• Mobility techniques
• Knowledge of handling of e.g. epilepsy, diabetes
• Knowledge of visual and hearing impairments
• Knowledge of digital communication aids

In order for us to be able to take a stand on your application, you must attach a certificate of graduation/grade on your completed education. When we want to offer you the position, it is required that you show an extract from the police's criminal record to enable us to employ you, according to provisions in Chapter 2, Sections 31-33 of the Education Act.
