Do you want to make a real difference? Here, you will meet young people and their parents directly, work closely with other professionals, and have great opportunities to influence both your work and the development of the operations. We look forward to your application!

Uppsala Youth Outreach is part of the social services' interventions for children and young people. The mission is to work preventively and proactively in collaboration with other authorities and actors. The operations work to create safety in several areas of Uppsala. You will be employed by the Social Services Administration, the Department for Children and Young People, with a placement at the Youth Outreach.

The Youth Outreach is a unit without authority powers that conducts proactive work in collaboration with schools, social services, police, and leisure activities. The team includes coordinators, field secretaries, social workers, and counselors. The work is carried out both locally in different areas and centrally through the coordination of social interventions.

Through collaboration with schools, we see increased concern that more children in middle and upper secondary school risk being drawn into crime and other negative behaviors. This is evident, among other things, through children staying in risk environments without adult supervision and through a lack of respect for others.

The goal of the operations is to work preventively in vulnerable areas to support young people in or near the risk zone for crime, drugs, and other negative behaviors.

We are now developing more school social teams together with the Education Administration and are looking for field secretaries. The position is split between work in schools and in the field, even after the end of the school day. The goal is to strengthen the collaboration between schools and social services so that students can complete their schooling and receive early support. The initiative primarily targets schools in Sävja, Stenhagen, Gottsunda/Valsätra, and Gränby.

Please read more about our operations on our website.

Description of Duties

As a field secretary within Uppsala Youth Outreach, you are responsible for parts of the proactive and preventive work with children and young people, with a special focus on schools. In this role, you collaborate with schools within a clearly defined geographical area and work on safety issues and crime prevention measures. The work contributes to increasing safety and reducing the risk of social unrest.

The purpose is to detect young people in risk zones early through structured collaboration and reduce the risk of them falling between different interventions. The goal is to prevent young people from developing criminal behavior, drug abuse, or other risky behaviors, as well as to actively work on safety among young people. You work preventively together with schools and other actors in the area by identifying young people who may need support. Based on each individual's needs, you offer interventions and work on lifestyle changes, primarily for young people aged 10-16.

You are part of a team together with the Youth Outreach coordinator and collaborate with social workers both in schools and in the field. You also have close cooperation with the Social Services Administration's Department for Children and Young People Authority and other operations.

An important part of the work is to follow what is happening in the area together with schools and other actors and to identify early signs of negative developments. You also contribute to mobilizing parents and other important adults in the area to strengthen the preventive work.

The work involves scheduled working hours Monday to Friday, both day and evening times. You will work during high-risk weekends such as May Day (Valborg), school graduations, Culture Night, and local youth events.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a social work degree, behavioral science degree, or equivalent university education and at least 3 years of work experience, of which 2 years within social work with children and young people. The work requires that you have good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing. You also need to have a B driving license.

We would like you to have training in Signs of Safety, Systems Theory, My Map, MI training, and method training in Crime as a Lifestyle. Experience of work within social services or schools is an advantage. It is also meritorious if you have language skills in addition to Swedish and English.

You take initiative, start activities, and drive the work forward. Furthermore, you have a good holistic view and see how different interventions and actors are connected, which allows you to act based on both the individual's needs and the operations' mission. You are flexible and adapt quickly to changed situations in a varied daily life. You cooperate well with others and communicate clearly, engaged, and adapt your message to the recipient.
