SGDS central IT department is responsible for managing, operating, and further developing the digital platforms, business systems, and infrastructure solutions that keep the entire business running. Through stable operations, high information security, and continuous technical improvement work, a robust IT environment is ensured that supports everything from the daily needs of stores and the logistics chain to sales functions, customer-facing systems, financial processes, sustainability work, analytics platforms, and other central business areas.

The IT department works closely with the business to deliver scalable, modern solutions that drive digitalization forward throughout the organization, while also streamlining processes and creating conditions for an even stronger and more cohesive customer experience. The IT department is also part of Saint-Gobain Distribution Nordic, and some assignments may take place across borders.

Responsibilities

As a Data Engineer at SGDS, you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions used widely throughout the organization. You work closely with colleagues and ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and usable.

The role has a clear focus on building and modernizing data warehouses and analytics platforms, primarily within Azure environments. You work with both data structuring and pipeline development, where performance and quality are central. In daily work, this involves both new development and optimization of existing solutions, while also contributing to technical decisions and the development of the data architecture.

Examples of tasks:

  • Design and develop data warehouses and data platforms in cloud environments
  • Build, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Model data according to methodologies such as Kimball and 3NF
  • Work with dbt for transformation, testing, and documentation
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries in advanced analytics scenarios

Education, experience, and personal qualities

  • Relevant higher education or equivalent experience
  • Several years of experience working with data warehouses and analytics platforms
  • Good knowledge of SQL, including query optimization and working with complex data models
  • Desirable: Practical experience with Snowflake (data warehouse, pipelines, Snowpipe, RBAC, performance optimization)
  • Desirable: Experience with dbt for transformation and data modeling
  • Desirable: Experience with Azure-based data services (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks)
  • Desirable: Experience with ETL/ELT and pipeline design
  • Familiarity with version control in Git and CI/CD workflows

You are comfortable collaborating with different parts of an organization and can adapt your communication style depending on the audience.
