School Counselor at Vimmerby Municipality

The Child and Education Administration in Vimmerby Municipality is responsible for all pedagogical activities, from preschool to university level, and is also responsible for Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) and societal orientation for newly arrived. Our common goal is that Vimmerby Municipality's children and young people should get the best conditions to meet the future and develop into creative, curious, and secure individuals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a counselor, you are part of the school's student health team, whose main task is health-promoting and preventive work. You structure and coordinate social interventions around students with various school difficulties. In the role of counselor, you also supervise teachers in psychosocial issues, work with students at both individual and group levels, and conduct support conversations with students. Based on the student's needs, you collaborate with teachers, guardians, and others within the student health team, but also with social services, child and adolescent psychiatry, and more. You also lead the school's equal treatment team, where you work preventively together with the rest of the group, and sometimes you are helpful in acute interventions.

Examples of tasks:

  • Promoting and preventive work at the group level
  • Conduct support, motivation, crisis, and conflict conversations, as well as investigative, advisory, and processing conversations with individual students
  • Initiate and participate in networking work regarding students
  • Map and assess the social situation outside of school for individual students
  • Work with groups in acute needs and for preventive purposes
  • Responsible for revising and updating the school's action plan regarding sexuality, consent, and relationships
  • Responsible for following up on the school's equal treatment work
  • Provide professional supervision and consultation to school staff
  • Contribute a social and psychosocial perspective to the development of pedagogical activities

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who are educated as a social worker. If you have experience working in the school world or experience in similar work, we see this as meritorious.

As a school counselor with us, you find it easy to collaborate but can also plan and prioritize your work and perform it independently. You have an outgoing and inclusive approach and create good relationships with educators, students, and guardians. You have a respectful attitude towards people's differences and share society's and the school's value base, e.g., regarding inclusion. Furthermore, you are confident in working with both small and large groups of students and staff, to meet the School Act's requirements for preventive and health-promoting work.

You follow current research and base your development work on an analysis of previous results. Furthermore, you master the Swedish language in a way that allows you to communicate with students, relatives, and other staff, and can document in writing what the activity requires.
